Looks like Law got an offer from the Buccanneers.
I am not sure if it is part of the uniform, but if he goes to Tampa, I hope they make him wear the Seinfeld “puffy shirt.”
Hearing
the phrase he was “faxed” an offer reminds me of the fact that he
mentioned in the recent Peter King piece, that he got an offer faxed
recentlt for one year, and he turned it down outright.
…is this the same 'offer' from the Bucs?
Pouha Signs
In
other news on the same page as the Law story, Sione Pouha has signed
with the Jets, no information on the financial details so far…
Beside his quick update
yesterday (looks like he is going to camp 2 days early if my math is
right…), I thought this was cool and wanted to share it with you all.
Although it isn't much, it is neat to hear back from a player on the
Jets, and think that he might come and check out this site… Mr.
Mawae, if you read this, thanks for the visit, and don't be a stranger!

Kevin-Thank
you for your consistent updates. I love reading your thoughts on topics
and what you are up to both in and out of season. I hope you don't
consider me a member of the media, but I blog about the Jets and
generally link your posts when I see you have made an update to your
page.Hope everything is well and I can't wait to see you in action again this year!

As mentioned previously, Herm Edwards was back home in Cali for his annual football camp. It looks like during his time out there, Coach Herm recently attended a prayer breakfast in Monterey, CA.
To
hear some of the quotes in this article, it is clear why players
respond to Herm. It isn't that he is such a master orator, it's that
his statements are simple, to the point, and there is truth in them.
I
know there are detractors of Herm (of which I am not), but his
character and clarity of purpose are certainly admirable. To counter
why this makes him capable or running a team, one could point out that
(as my dad always said) “Jimmy Carter was a great man, but made an
awful President.”
So, there can be somewhat of a disconnect, but
for me, it always seems like every time I hear him speaking (outside of
talking about injuries) I grow to respect him as a man more and more.
Bottom line, I think he is a good man to run the club…
Who says there is no news about football during this time of the year?
ESPN's Len Pasquarelli writes about the way Chad Pennington recently talked to a California Newspaper (The Monterey Herald) about his recovery from his off-season shoulder surgery.
From reading the reports, it's clear that Pennington didn't beat around the bush.
During his interview, he spoke pretty plainly about his surgery and subsequent recovery, but optimistically as well, saying:
“In the long run,” Pennington said, “it's going to be a blessing. My arm hasn't felt this good in a long time.”
Patriots
Owner Robert Kraft (probably wanting to show off) during a business
trip to Russia let the Russian Prime Minister, Vladmir Putin, put on
his two week old Superbowl Ring, and Putin thought it was a gift. Ooops! Didn't expect that to happen, huh Robby?
So now, Kraft's brand new 2005 4.94 carat ring (the biggest in Superbowl history) is sitting somewhere Russian Library.
This is so good, it has to be fattening!
Ripped directly from USA Today's Ty Law player profile.
The
Chiefs are still interested in Ty Law, but they want to make sure he's
over his broken left foot and will be willing to sign at a dramatically
reduced price, according to the Kansas City Star. “The thought
is to play the whole scenario out,” Chiefs coach Dick Vermeil said,
“and the scenario does include a final evaluation of Ty Law in terms of
what is actually going to happen from a financial standpoint. First
off, can he pass the physical? And then we have to find out how much
money hes going to be offered on the open market. If hes going to be
offered big money, then were automatically out of it.”
The real question is whether Vermeil will attempt to give Law a nice bottle of wine…
Saw this story
today and thought it was cool to see the Jets bringing Mo & Marvin
back to retire as Jets, with the intention to honor them during the
upcoming season. Marvin & Mo were great contributors to the Jets
teams of the 90s and I am happy that the Jets organization is doing
this.
Mawae Hanging with the Rookies
According to his recent journal,
for the past few days Kevin Mawae has been on a panel for the Rookie
Symposium in Florida to help them learn how to deal with the media.
Without ruining the punchline too much, it's funny to see how Mawae
notes the irony of the situation with the beat writers' shenanigans of
the past few weeks…
Peter King has written a pretty in-depth article
on Ty Law, based on a 45 minute interview he had with him last week.
According to Law, the Jets are in the mix, but there are other teams
who have a greater need, and might have more money. I will do some more
work on this later…
Phew! After a long weekend of moving
into my fiancee's and my new apartment (we are getting married in July)
I pretty much didn't have a moment to spare to pay attention to
anything about the Jets.
This morning I saw this article by Clark Judge on CBS Sportsline, and thought it interesting.
Clark Judge has wrote a feature piece
last Friday about Curtis Martin and his desire to do more pre-season
work like last summer. Although this has me somewhat concerned, it
seemed to work last year, let's just hope it works again in 2005.
A few different topics of interest
today. I don't have the time to spout off on everyone, but thought you
would enjoy reading some happenings…
Jets' Defensive Line Players Ranked
USA
Today ranked players at end and tackle and guess who was on their list?
Abraham (#3), Ellis (#11), Robertson (#25) and ex-Jet Ferguson (#15).
Jets Want Out of New Jersey
Out of Jersey huh? That doesn't sound too ambiguous… guess it is the West Side or Queens then…
Secure Secondary?
Bob
Bullock makes the case that he thinks that the Jets won't make a run at
Law, due to Derrick Strait's emergence, Ray Mickens' health and the new
guy Justin Miller.
I know this is about the team that send the Jets packing last year, and frankly, I don't care.
Yes, this one has nothing to do with the Jets, but the retirement of Myron Cope, a (capital “L”) Legend in the football community is a sad story and for football announcing, this guy has to be The Standard.
For
many Steelers' fans, they can't remember a time when Mr. Cope wasn't
calling the games in his distinct, somewhat high-pitched, anxiety laden
voice, spouting his corny but funny catchphrases.
Hearing the cry of “yoi!” “dub-bel yoi!!” and the extremely rare
“trip-pel yoi!!!” has almost become synonymous with Steelerdom.
As
a Yankees fan, I couldn't imagine what a world would be like without
Bob Shephard on the Stadium's P.A. in his hushed but authoritative tone
stating:
“Now batting… number 50, Os-car A-zo-car, number 50…”
Although
this has been expected for some time, Cope, who is now 76, has had some
health issues and has been having a tougher time keeping up with the
game…
Think of Frank Gifford's decline, but then add a whole bunch of dignity…
Cope,
who apparently had a hard time giving up his post, realizes this is the
best thing. Knowing a little about his personality and his love of the
team, I don't expect he will be too far from games or interviews. I
would be suprised if he pulled a Carson on Steeler Nation.
Cope's
popularity and impact on the franchise have been nothing less than
amazing. Other than some of his immortal playcalls, the Terrible Towel
has been a popular fundraiser for charities for almost thirty years,
and will live on for a long time to come.
Of Cope, Art Rooney II
said “you were really part of it. You were part of the team. The
Terrible Towel many times got us over the goal line.”
According to news reports, Ty Law is working out with the Jaguars. From the article:
Vice
president of personnel James Harris told ESPN that he acknowledged a
few weeks ago that the Jags had some “conversations” in-house about Law.
I'll post more if I find anything…
