Apparently, today is BlogDay…
I think I am supposed to give you five links to blogs that I like, here goes.
Metsblog.com
- I am a Yankees fan and I read this site… I have no idea how Cerrone
keeps his posts constantly firing off all day, he is like an
uberblogger.
CelticsBlog.com
- My good college buddy Jeff started this site over a year ago and has
taken the mantle as the best site for Celtics information on the web…
period. This was the site that made me want to start my blog. Oh yeah, our friend Bent writes there too from time to time…
HeelsSoxSteelers
- Ryan Wilson writes some of the most poignant, witty and hilarious
posts I have ever read. I hate two of the three teams he writes about
(Heels & Sox) and have a grudge against the third (Steelers) but I
continue to read his excellent remarks on the teams he follows.
NFL Cheerleaders
- Although the Jets don't have any cheerleaders, nothing like a site
that makes you slap yourself in the face and say “now why didn't I think of starting a site like that??”
Fark.com
- The mother of all time-wasting while at work blogs. If you don't know
this site already, shame on you, if you don't, this is what every wacky
FM DJ uses as fodder for his wacky FM DJ news stories.
Happy Blogday
First off, we want to say thanks for
reading the site! It is great to see the readership growing (up to
about 800 readers a day now) and to hear more thoughts from you, the
fans.
We wanted to let you loyal readers know, we at thejetsblog.com
are working on some interesting changes that we will try to unveil on
the site in the next few weeks. Not wanting to jinx anything, we will
say nothing more than there are some good, good changes on the horizon
that will get readers more involved with the larger community of Jets
fans, make it easier to find what you are looking for on this site, and
hopefully bring you more credible information and analysis… but time
will tell, and this isn't (and won't be) my full-time job, so the goal
is to make my life easier.
For now, we will keep bringing you the good stuff, and let you know how & when things move forward!
Bent & Bassett
From the Jets Official Website, DT Alan Harper has been cut.
This now leaves some wiggle room for McGill to make it through, who will still be the #5 DT on the roster…
A pundit is picking the Jets to lose the SuperBowl.
Eh? A Pundit is picking the Jets to lose the SuperBowl?!
A PUNDIT IS PICKING THE JETS TO LOSE THE SUPERBOWL!!!!
There
is no excuse to settle, but one has to get some boost to think of the
Jets as the AFC Champions, let alone playing in a SuperBowl… glad to
know we aren't wearing dark green colored glasses
The Sporting News (the reporting organization that is currently bringing you whistle blowing articles like Inside Dish: Deion is No Longer Prime Time) own Vinnie Iyer picks the Jets to lose the SuperBowl to the Panthers (my NFC Champ pick).
Well, I think I already know, but what do you think?
One of my very first posts on this blog was about Jason Taylor and his take on Jets fans, and now he is back at it again talking some garbage about our fan base
in some snow-cone article in the Miami Herald… if writers can pass
this off for major markets as “sports journalism” give me a frikkin job!
Ah well, just one more reason to hate this crybaby Neutrogena poster child.
''The
sophisticated people in New York like the Wall Streeters and the people
who are really doing something with themselves — they're Giants
fans,'' Taylor says. “And everybody else, all the ones who got kicked
out of New York and moved to Miami and live in all the places we didn't
want to live in Miami, they root for the other guys.''
Wow! Look at him crushing that Dirt & Odor!!! I wonder if he can crush the fact that he is on a terrible team…
From around the Blogosphere, I looked for some folks posting on the news regarding John Abraham, to read some other fans opinions hit the links to their sites below:
Jets Streams: (No, not nj.com's “Jet Streams” which, by the way, is the best name hands down ever
for a Jets blog…) Mick muses on his AOL Journal about Abraham, and
how the kids on his Juniors team play for the love of the game, not the
love of the coin.
Mental Sword Fighting:
This blog gets a friend to run a preview of the AFC East, and the
reviewer is bullish on the Jets what with Abraham back…. predicting
them to go 12-4 this season (a bit optimistic if you ask me)
Costanza's Jets Commentary:
Costanza states that although Abraham ending his holdout is good news,
that the Jets are cursed and even if the team looks better than they
have in years on paper, there is still that shred of doubt haunting the
back of one's mind as a Jets fan…
SportsZilla & The Jabber Jocks:
The post is mostly about the Mets, but at the bottom, Ben muses that
since Abe is injury prone anyway, the holdout won't matter one way or
another, and the only thing for Abe to do is to play his way out of
this tag for a long-term deal.
With
Abe now taking on the almost heretical #56 (and this from a Giants
hater), here is your chance to buy a “throwback” or maybe “throwaway”
jersey.
Get the now defunct John Abraham #94 Jersey for only $15 from the Jets Online Store and you could use it for the following purposes:
- Use it to do your fall yardwork in around the house and show your team spirit.
- Wear it to away games if you fear reprisal of host fans (New England)
- Buy
one for your significant other, since you want to get them some Jets
gear, but know he/she really doesn't care about the team or players
that much, thus making it hard to justify spending the big bucks… - Put the jersey in some sort of display case on the wall to add more stuff for your “Jets Bunker” in your home.
- Custom fit it for your dog.
- Squirrel it away for a couple years only to reveal it sometime down the road… as a “throwback.”
I had to post this cartoon from Newsday….

With John Abraham now back in the fold, Newsday looks at Bryan Thomas and the strides he has made in Abraham on the sidelines last season and holding out this year.
Chad updated his web journal
on the NFL Players' site telling us that the Giants game was a
“learning experience” but he does look on the bright side and tell us
that his “shoulder feels good. If theres any positive it would be that
I got banged around and was able to bounce back.”
Glad to hear that at least…
Herman Edwards held a conference to talk about some topics to reporters today, to listen to the conference hit the link on the center of the Jets homepage.
To just read the highlights, check this article at MSG.
Here are my notes on Herm's Press Conference:
- Herm stated practices since Friday have been good and he is pleased with the team's progress. (Aren't they always?)
- Herm
is looking at something like “18 cuts to go.” Although this isn't a big
game for starters, it is really important to rookies and young guys to
stay with teams. - Bryan Thomas is the starter… Herm thinks
Thomas is a guy who has made a lot of improvements since his first
year. He can drop in pass (Zone Dogs) and has “come a long way.” He
sees in Thomas lots of similarities to Shaun Ellis: both are physical,
strong, smart, and conscientious - Herm said he has no
expectations of John Abraham, as at the time (14:15 ET) wasn't at
practice today. As he wasn't under contract, he had no expectations,
which is why he likes to leave that stuff to the front office. - Justin
Miller – will be playing as #3, working on getting better. I typical
Herm fashion he declared Miller the #1 for punts, but warned that
Jerricho Cotchery has some great ability, and to look for McCareins as
well. In practice Cotchery “has been catching Ben's punts…” Herm
sympathizes with Miller, who is getting used to the multiple coverages
on defense, stating that in college it is easier when players can rely
more on natural ability since most teams play only 1 or 2 different
coverage schemes. - On Curtis Martin- Herm apparently went to the
whiteboard and drew a big zero for the answer to the number of carries
that Martin would have in the Eagles' game. According to Herm, he
thinks he was only one carry off his number from last year. “If you
want to watch him carry, watch him in the warmups.” - The “ones”
(starters) are already practicing and preparing for the opener against
Kansas City… “twos” and “threes” are practicing and preparing for the
game on Thursday. - On Jonathan Vilma – “He's looking to top what
he did last year.” Edwars told him “they'll follow you if you play
[well].” Herm stated that Vilma and Ellis are the leaders of the
defense. Herm commented on his character, saying that he is always
working to improve and that “he hates to lose.” Apparently during camp,
Vilma's team lost a game of softball and “he almost had a fit.” - On
Brooks Bollinger – Herm's “Demolition Man.” Herm likened Bollinger to a
stunt man… “movie stars don't do all the stunts!” It's hard for
Bollinger, since preseason play has changed, and whereas things used to
be very “vanilla, now everyone is blitzing,” especially when you are
playing close or from behind, in the preseason. Herm stated that for
his role, a team needs “a mobile and tough guy.” - Look for Kevin Eakin to see time in the 4th quarter
- #5
Cotch brings lots of stuff on all side of the ball… the 5th guy
brings something that the other's dont… whether it's size or speed.
On Eakin and Bollinger, with bigtime backup Matt Cassell recently beating out Rohan Davey in
New England, it would be interesting to see if the Jets take a chance
to develop a player like Eakin, who has already had some success in NFL
Europe…
Newsday reports that John Abraham has at last signed his franchise tender.
Of
course, Newsday is the same source that had a false report last week,
but on this occasion, the news comes from the agents, rather than “a
source” and the official site confirms the news.
I
wonder if the stuff about him changing his number was baloney too.
Maybe we'll know if Dennis Haley (the current number 56) is cut.
