Buzz: Chad to be Jets' Number Three?

Did you see this note in Berger's article yesterday about Chad Pennington possibly landing as the #3 QB for Gang Green next season?
The topic has not been broached publicly, but the Jets actually
envision a scenario in which Chad Pennington would be the No. 3
quarterback next season. In that circumstance, Jay Fiedler and whoever
is acquired in the offseason would compete for the starting job, and
Pennington would have another entire season to get his right shoulder
healthy.

Does this suprise you? What do you think about this whole scenario? How do you think this will this all play out?
Personally, I think this type of crap indicates yet another brown-nosing reporter who gets this shit directly from Jets' brass hoping to put pressure on Chad and at the same time insulate themselves from fans who may be upset with the fallout of playing hardball (I refuse to consider the inanity that the Jets FO would pay another $3 mil to keep Chad as 3rd stringer — that is too dumb even for Terry B).
While in this case, I think hardball needs to be played, this indirect way of setting fans up is insulting and the media's complicity indicates how incompetent they are.
A recent look at Jet's reporting is that there are stories (e.g., Vinny starting the second game when he came back and before Herm's recent stupid announcement) where the Jets FO prepared fandom (sufferers) for another Jets mistake by making sure they saw the idea in black and while attributed first to a respected news source.
What do I think? However it is packaged, shit smells the same. This team deserves a more robust media that holds the failures of of those who are comfortable with how things are (or incapable of taking us further). We also deserve a FO with the guts to say how things are and will be and the competence to do most things right.
