Some thoughts:
1. Ramsey might be cut, which is the only way I would consider him. If we traded for Ramsey, we'd be picking up his salary, which is just under 3 mil for 2006 and we'd have to give up a pick. Washington could package Ramsey and some picks in a trade for Abe, but they don't have a first rounder. I'd rather get a 1 for John.
2. It doesn't matter who's back there for us at QB if we don't bolster the OL, which leads me to believe the Jets will take Fergie at #4. And they should take him, unless for some strange reason Lienart or Young slip to #4, and they manage to pick up another first round pick for Abraham. They need to draft a tackle with first round talent that can start right away.

If Chad resigns and then we sign Ramsey I don't want to see an Abraham and #4 pick to move up to #1 and take Lienart. I like Lienart but thats alot for three QBs.
Rather see them take Ferguson to protect Chad/Ramsey and Martin/???.
And that brings me to the ???. Trade Abraham for another late round pick maybe combine that with the #2 to get a good #1 pick and take White.

The Jets are also supposed to be frontrunners in the Daunte Culpepper sweepsteaks, assuming Minnesota decides to trade him (which they won't).
I'm not bothered by any of this talk. It just means that the Jets are exploring all avenues to upgrade the quarterback position. Ramsey isn't a player I'm all that high on, but he has a superior skill set to anyone available on the market, and he has a very reasonable salary. A Ramsey signing by itself wouldn't do much for me, but in conjunction with a renegotiated Pennington contract and a high draft choice, that should radically upgrade the possibilities at the quarterback posiiton.

saw a lot of Ramsey in DC--has a big arm, but doesn't see the field well, makes poor decisions, and is one of the most immobile qb's in the league--not just a traditional pocket passer, but a virtual statue with no ability to pick up a needed few yards on third down or evade the rush and improvise.

I've often thought Josh McCown would be an interesting "veteran" pickup. He's got a few 300-yard games under his belt and seemed to play well, despite being in Arizona. And I don't go by Denny Green -- he dumped Kendall for no good reason, and he was a great pick up for Jets in '05, although this year was hard to judge, being out of position and all. And three years for Kurt Warner? Uh . . ..
Anyway, I'm always surprised that I don't ever hear that the Jets have interest in McCown -- from what I've seen, he seems to be a better player with more potential than Ramsey. Does anyone know why they don't seem interested? Cap restrictions?

I honestly don't think they've decided yet. They'll see how far they can talk Chad down and then decide whether to keep him. If they don't, then I can see some kind of Ramsey/Rookie contest in camp.
Is it a choice of keep Penny OR high QB draft pick, or could we see both? I think it's probably one or the other.
Not a huge fan of Ramsey btw.
