[...] Kerry Rhodes star continues to rise. Although it seemed a bit out there at the time, maybe the Football Outsiders numbers comparing Troy Polamalu to Kerry Rhodes wasn’t so crazy after all. [...]

Interesting. Just as an FYI, I was going based on how Ourlads has it set. You do make a good point about Smith's abilities versus Coleman or Rhodes, but I am sticking to my story.
Also, with the influx of other Linebackers (Kassell, Chatham & Schlegel) and low number of turnover in the safeties, I don't suspect that McClover will make the team.

Hmmm. I envision it more like this...
SS - Smith, Maddox,
FS - Rhodes, Coleman, Washington
Camp fodder/practice squad - Thompson
Remember SS = closer to the LOS and needs to be a good tackler and FS = more in pass coverage support. (Sorry, BB, I keep doing this!)
The two positions are apparently still somewhat interchangeable in the Pats scheme, which we have to assume will look something like ours, so at the moment, I think Rhodes with his range is the FS and Coleman is pencilled in at SS, because although the others may be a better fit, they do not have his experience.
I'm sure Maddox and Smith will contribute and they are both big hitters, so I expect they will become fan favourites (sic).
There are also some potential position changes. At 225 McClover is way too small to be an every down player in a 3-4, but he could be switched to SS. Barrett and/or Strait have been mentioned as possible FS converts in the past. Drew Coleman played S in college, but is probably too small.
