How About a Round of Applause for Chad!

Well, the saga surrounding the Jets starting QB is over. Chad is Mangini’s man and will start the season under Nick Mangold’s derriere in Nashville.
Lost somewhat in the media hysteria and subsequent chatter concerning Mangini’s “late” choice of Pennington as the starter is the fact that he chose Pennington as the starter at all. Many here and elsewhere left Pennington for dead after his second shoulder surgery. I guess he showed us.
Now, one could make a valid argument that if a signal-caller other than a cast-off, rookie or converted wishbone QB were in camp Pennington would be holding a clipboard. However, the mere fact that this guy fought his way back from two, career-threatening surgeries and earned himself a NFL starting job is worthy of considerable praise.
I don’t believe Pennington is an A-list quarterback, but my respect for him as a competitor is off the charts.

  1. I don't think he is what people perceive as a statistically “A List” QB but for all that he has, for all that he does, for all that he has come through, for his passer rating (albeit he needs to get back to where he was) he is an “A List” kind of person and may again be that kind of QB.
I don't remember doubting him after hearing that the second surgery had nothing to do with the first. He never had a big gun.
    Same old Chad…thankfully.

  2. I think the entire league is rooting for a Pennington comeback.
We'll just have to see if he can still compete. I am hopeful, but have no great expectations.

  3. 3 Preseason games without a TD pass and total futility in the Red Zone, I'll hold my applause for Chad. His return is a mildly engaging human interest story. But in terms of football, I'm just praying Chad is able to properly take a snap this season without coughing it up as he did repeatedly last year. 2002 is a long time ago. He's a nice guy and has got heart or something? but I'd prefer an unlikable sob that can win me some games. No applause for you Chad until you play up to the amount of unjustified respect the New York fans give you. Deliver baby, deliver.
