Ryan is a better blocker than Jolley and a bit younger (26). The Cowboys were going to have him on their active roster the last couple of years, but he kept getting hurt (including a broken foot). They must have seen something they liked because they kept bringing him back to the practice squad.
I'm not sure the same pick was dealt in the deal. All indications are that the Ryan deal happened first and it was for a 7th. In terms of draft position obviously you would expect a Dallas pick to be later (assuming it is in the same round - perhaps Jolley's will be a 5th or 6th and maybe it has conditions attached?) At that stage of the draft though, it makes no real difference. We'll see what is reported tomorrow.
A puzzling trade for the Bucs to make but oh well. At least he is no longer on a team where he has the worst hands (see Becht, Anthony) and I hope he enjoys meeting Paul Hackett.
Thomas has an outside shot of making the team, but I doubt it. Unless the Dwight injury is worse than we thought. Probably just an extra body to use on Friday night and consider for the practice squad if he shines.
No cap hit for Jolley and Ryan is dirt cheap. They perhaps feel Dreessen has better potential.
At the end of the day, we just traded a backup tight end for another backup tight end. No big deal and hopefully the picks swapped works out in our favour (sic).
This pretty much closes the book on the Bradway trade, which I'm sure even he would have to admit was a disaster. If we can recoup anything through this Ryan kid, that would be great.
