Curtis to Announce Retirement Today?

by Bassett on November 1st, 2006 at 11:28 am

As tired as I am by this, could Curtis’ announcement to retire, or at least hold off for the season, come today? Rich Cimini has information that it’s true, and writes about it in the Daily News.

I think Darth Vader summed it well in the craptacular “Star Wars Episode 3: Lucas Finishes Screwing Over Anyone Who Loved the Original Trilogy As a Kid.”

    And I quote:
    “NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!”

Seriously, why does Vinny from Elmont’s less-than-spectacular career get to end with a TD on Monday Night Football while Curtis (soon-to-be) from Canton’s goes out in a whimper? ‘Taint fair!

I really, realy want to see him come running out of the tunnel one more time, even if he doesn’t get to play, just to receive the overwhelming adoration of the crowd he so richly deserves. I know they’ll probably do some nice half-time thing, but a warrior like Curtis deserves an on-field, in-uniform send off.

What Dallas Green was to “Generation K,” Herm Edwards was to Curtis and soon will be to Larry Johnson (on pace for nearly 400 carries). I’ve posted this before, but one of the biggest (or, maybe, THE biggest) mistakes made by Herm was not integrating LaMont Jordan into the offense to spell Curtis. 371 carries at 31 years old?!? Are you kidding me? Moreover, Curtis lost that 2nd gear after his injury-plagued 2002 season, so most of those 371 carries were between the tackles, being pounded by LB’s and DB’s, churning those legs for every extra inch. I agree. A warrior like Curtis should’ve ended his career like Bettis did. I blame Herm for Curtis’ career ending with a whimper.
