Biz vs. The Nuge

by Bassett on November 29th, 2006 at 2:44 pm

Randy Lange writes an article on Mike Nugent, which highlights Nugent’s focus. Lange also throws in a stat about Nugent’s kicks this season as compared to last year.

One problem area remains — kickoffs. His key numbers are virtually identical to his underwhelming rookie season, from the yard line his kicks reach (6.3 after 11 games last year, 6.7 this year) to the yard line they’re returned to (29.2 to 29.1).

His hang times have been shorter (3.87 seconds to 3.79), yet he’s gotten 10 kicks to the goal line this year compared to seven all last season.

It’s kind of ironic, because I thought during the offseason, Nugent was working out with Olindo Mare (via Mike Westhoff) to work on the distance of his kicks. Funny how he works out with an AFC East rival player and then Nugent’s kicks don’t hang as long and are shorter … I wonder what that’s all about … hmm …

Seriously though, the investment has been made, I want Nugent to succeed, I just wonder what the Jets have a change in store for kickoffs next year if there isn’t some progress between now and then.

PS – I want a Mangold jersey, if only the powers that be at the Jets web site would make one available. He was a number one, ya know.
