Has anyone heard that the Patriots or some guy from the Boston media took a shot at Mangini this week?
I watched a piece about it on Daily News live here in NY yesterday on SNY, but I caught the story in the middle and didn’t hear the whole thing.
Carl Banks and Rich Cimini were saying something about how Mangini must really be getting under New England’s skin for them to say something like this.
Any idea what there referring to?

cimini wrote in an article earlier this week that someone heard a patriot assistant coach running off the field after they beat jacksonville say something to the effect of “take that Eric Mangini. AFC East champs again”. cimini’s take was that mangini must really be under the pats’ skin for them to say something like that.

that’s pretty much the whole thing. don’t remember which coach it was. maybe the tight ends coach or something.

Thanks Jeff, I’ve been looking everywhere for the story but haven’t seen anything.

yeah….it was the tight ends coach. AND….lets really think about this. Some low level coach, obv one of belli-jerks “worshippers”….screams that in excitement after…..WINNING THE AFC EAST!!!. wow….sounds like communism has a home in foxboro. sad…..

The comment about Washington is interesting. I think we’re in the position of having two good running backs, but neither has shown they can carry a full load yet. Washington has the explosiveness and Houston is more powerful. As much as you dislike “running back by committee” from a fantasy football perspective, from a “real football” perspective, I think it gives a lot of benefits. You can mix it up with different styles and it keeps both RBs fresher over the course of the season. And if one does get hurt, the other one can step up.

What I’d really like to see is the Jets put both of them in the backfield at the same time (if Houston plays this week). Teams used to do that all the time but somewhere in the 80s it fell out of favor.

  6. avatar Dennis says:

The real stupidity of the comment is that as we all know, the Pats win put the Jets in position to make the playoffs. Saying “take that Mangini” after a win that was a huge help to the Jets playoff chances is just asinine.

New Orleans has been mixing that in with Bush-McCallister. Seems like Houston is big enough to play fullback.

Houston doesn’t seem able to stay healthy and as the “work horse” back, he’s the more important half of a “thunder and lightning” duo. Maybe Leon can remake himself, like Tiki did, into an every-down back by gaining 20 lbs of muscle. But, I’d still like to see the Jets draft an RB in the first 2 rounds or sign a quality back (Michael Turner would be perfect, but LaMont (he’s due a huge bonus payment) will likely be cut by the Raiders and I’d like to see him back…both are longshots).

It will be interesting to see what the Jets do, I would have to imagine that Blaylock and Barlow will be cut. From a quick look to Mel Kiper’s big board, there isn’t a RB in the top 25 right now, so I am not smart enough to know if that’s a good thing, or a bad thing. With three picks in the first two rounds, my hope is that they draft a value player (like Michael Bush) when it makes sense.

I’ve heard in a few places that the Jets will be going hard after Michael Turner, the back-up running back out in San Diego this off seaon. Brian Shottenheimer is very close with LT’s back-up and Turner will be a free agent in 2007. The little I’ve seen of Turner he’s only 24 years old, 5-10, 237 pounds, very fast and has power too.

I do not want LaMont back. He has a knee injury to recover from now and he never really impressed me when he was on the Jets. He’s more of a one-dimensional, North-South, grind it out runner and I think Mangini is looking for players with more versatility than that. RB-by-committee is fine with me if it produces the desired effect, but I agree with Dennis, I’d like to see the 2-back set more often so teams have to plan for both styles of runners.
