He has a knee injury to recover from now and he never really impressed me when he was on the Jets. He's more of a one-dimensional, North-South, grind it out runner and I think Mangini is looking for players with more versatility than that. RB-by-committee is fine with me if it produces the desired effect, but I agree with Dennis, I'd like to see the 2-back set more often so teams have to plan for both styles of runners. Brian Shottenheimer is very close with LT's back-up and Turner will be a free agent in 2007. The little I've seen of Turner he's only 24 years old, 5-10, 237 pounds, very fast and has power too. Maybe Leon can remake himself, like Tiki did, into an every-down back by gaining 20 lbs of muscle. But, I'd still like to see the Jets draft an RB in the first 2 rounds or sign a quality back (Michael Turner would be perfect, but LaMont (he's due a huge bonus payment) will likely be cut by the Raiders and I'd like to see him back...both are longshots). I think we're in the position of having two good running backs, but neither has shown they can carry a full load yet. Washington has the explosiveness and Houston is more powerful. As much as you dislike "running back by committee" from a fantasy football perspective, from a "real football" perspective, I think it gives a lot of benefits. You can mix it up with different styles and it keeps both RBs fresher over the course of the season. And if one does get hurt, the other one can step up. What I'd really like to see is the Jets put both of them in the backfield at the same time (if Houston plays this week).
