Jets 23 – Raiders 3: BOOYAH!!!

Today I was travelling back from Virginia, and I have to say that JetBlue has earned my distinction of “best flight ever.” More to do with the Jets than the Terra Blue Potato Chips. Some thoughts for the game:

  • Chad Pennington had a good game, taking what the Raiders would give him, using his typical short passes but setting up some longer passes as well.
  • Brad Smith didn’t catch any passes, but his reverse and sneak were great.
  • Kerry Rhodes had another good game with his fifth sack of the season.
  • Glad to see Nick Mangold was OK after he was injured right before the half.
  • Stupid Denver! What a suprise, Herm backed into the playoffs! I would rather the Jets have faced the Colts than the Pats, but wow what a matchup!

More tomorrow!

  1. i dont know where the Raiders were today but they werent in Jersey, they were already on vacation.

That team didnt have a chance and they played and layed down just like i thought they would.

Jets vs pats Next Sunday at 1p.m.

  2. I don’t know about Bassett, but living in the heart of Pats country up here in New Hampshire, I am actually glad we are facing the Pats–especially if we knock them out next week. Pats fans have become obnoxious since they have won their Superbowls. If we can topple them next weekend, I won’t have to listen to their taunting all off season. Besides, I think we have a better chance against them than we would against Indy.

    Bring on the Pats!!

  3. It would be great if we win, but looking at it realistically, NE is a much better team. I see Maroney and Dillon running all over us. But if we can keep it close, maybe we can get a big play or two and pull it out. That’s why they play the games.

  4. What I’d like to see is the Jets upset the Pats in Gillette Stadium. Then, Mangini in his press conference does the “Deion” and says “This is MY HOUSE.” Yes, Dennis is right, the Jets will probably lose and the Colts were a better draw. But, beating the Pats would be more satisfying than the ass-kicking we gave the Colts in 2002. And, 2 road wins against the Pats would announce to the whole NFL that these Jets are not the “Same Old Jets.” As an aside, now that Mangini and Sean Payton both have 10-6 records, how isn’t Mangini coach of the year? From 4-12 to 10-6 and the no. 5 seed in the AFC, which is the far superior conference…c’mon! Kerry Rhodes showed, again, that he’s a Pro Bowler. And, if Chad’s not the comeback player of the year, there’s an anti-Jet conspiracy out there. A great decisive Jets win today. Let’s tighten up that run D and gameplan to get a lead on the Pats. Wow! What a gift of a season!!!

  5. Since Bye, D in 1st half of games has arguably been best in NFL. Brady/BB have never lost a home playoff game (unless you count our 30-17 butt wiping of them week 16 2002 which was in essence a playoff game). Pass Rush will have to be just as good as they were in Foxboro 2 months ago. Also think Chad will need to go downfield more – BB will defnitely take away all short stuff.

Glad we are going up I-95…did not want to go to Dome

    Happy New Year everyone

  6. I agree Mangini should get coach of the year, but New Orleans still has the post-Katrina story going for it. Chad is definitely comeback player of the year – did anyone think we’d ever see him stay healthy for a full season?

We’re definitely going to have to hit some deep passes to win this game. You know BB is going to be ready for us. I’m sure Mangini will have a few thins up his sleeve. It’s going to be a matter of not making mistakes and getting a big play – a Miller KO return or defensive score or something.

  7. I would rather face the Pats too. Think about it fellas we already won up in NE once this year, so the team has the confidence to beat them. We played the Colts at home and lost in a close game, but still there offense is very good. I know the Colts run defense is horrible, but Peyton is scary in the dome.
This week is going to be crazy with all Mangini-Bellichick hype!

  8. *speechless*

  9. Great win, very impressed. I was the only one that predicted a loss fearing this was the classic SOJ game, but now convinced those days are behind us. A big step forward, should be competitive next week.

Looking at the 8 teams playing next week Jets are clearly better than 5 and competitive with the other two. Imagine that!

Pats will be fun but would have preferred Indy.

LJ will run for 300 yards next week and Herm will look like a hero after beating Colts.

  10. I dislike Herm but disagree that he backed into the playoffs.

His team won the game it needed to win against a tough team, all the others lost.

KC matches up great with Indy, think they will beat the paper tiger colts.

  11. I agree completely Wayne. The teams have to play all 16 games, and it’s a very short season. Every game counts, not just games 1-15. The Chiefs did what they had to do and earned their spot just like everyone else.

  12. [...] I know that I won’t soon forget the sight of the Penguin being soaked by Jonathan Vilma and company (there’s a great shot of it at The Jets Blog). Mangini’s reaction was great, never fully gleeful but he finally allowed the truth of the playoffs to roll across his face in a smile like the gatorade soaking his skin. I’ll obviously talk more about the Patriots, Mangini-Belichick III and everything else in the days leading up to Sunday but just wanted to say that there’s simply no better way to end a year than watching the Jets climb the mountain and no better way to start it than psyching yourself up for a mammoth playoff game against your biggest rivals. All credit to Mangini who should be Coach of the Year and to Mike Tannenbaum for putting his friend in charge despite his lack of experience and youth. [...]
