Free Agent Focus: James Hodgins
With franchise & transition tags now available to teams and their free agents, we will be looking at the free agents currently within the Jets organization, in this post we will look at backup fullback James Hodgins.
Name: James Hodgins
Position: Fullback
Stats: 0 Games Started
0 Att – 0 yards, 0.0 YPA, 0TD
2 Rec – 9 yards, 4.5 YPC, 0TD
Breakdown: James Hodgins was brought into the organization in late September after he was cut by Arizona earlier that month and had been inactive due to injury. That being said, even after losing elevn pounds in one week and having sat on the couch for about a year preceding, he was a better backup fullback than Jamar Martin, who routinely didn’t know where he was supposed to be lined up, and missed some blocks. In contrast, Hodgins’ few moments on the field were quiet.
Even though he only saw limited action on the field, Hodgins was a team guy through and through. I don’t think that Hodgins has the requisite skills to fill the slot at the top of the depth charts that might be vacated by BJ Askew, and with Stacey Tutt a project player, I imagine that Hodgins will be squeezed off the roster, if they think Tutt is ready can handle backup duties. The Jets will look to any holes created by Hodgins or Askew through free agency, or maybe a later round in the draft
