Sorry to divert from my tirade on Peter King and Guinness to actually talk about football.

Randy Lange writes about Matt Chatham’s contributions on and off the field on the Jets’ web site. Be sure to hit the multimedia player for some highlights as well.

Switching gears to the Draft, Ferragamo notes in the comments on the Bowens post that he “heard an interview on NFL radio with Penn State LB, Paul Posluszny and he said the only team he’s worked out with so far is the Jets.”

Oh reeeally?? That’s an interesting development!

Kiper’s perfectly styled coif seems to think that “Poz” is late first round material. He even has him going to the Giants at #20.

If you aren’t exactly sure who Paul Poslusky is, or have a say about him … you might want to check out Bent and my rather overambitious project a Wiki specifically aimed at Draft data, which is in Beta right now… which basically means “it’s not done yet, and that ugly image in the top left isn’t staying, so don’t mock us too hard.” I think this year we’ll get the kinks out, and hopefully it will become a self-sufficient well oiled machine over time. Check it out, but more on that later in the week.

do jets really need another undersized 4-3 ILB? he’s only a few pounds heavier than Vilma. (still hoping for some kind of crazy vilma trade–he’s too good to waste on team where he is a poor fit.)

    guard or CB, please!

Too small, too slow, knee injury, great intangibles. At least Shlegal was healthy.

Hope they do not wast a first round pick on him, bad fit.

Looks more and more like offensive line to me.

Great tackler, great instincts, can play either inside or out, good football speed (not great in the 40 like peter warrick), great leader, smart player. He’s a difference make, if he is there take him.

Yea I think they’d pick him if he’s there unless you can trade down a spot or three to someone who wants him more.

If he’s not there I think CB is seeming more likely based on the mock drafts I’ve skimmed.

This is a little bit of a hedge, but as much as I think he is too small and too slow to play in the 3-4, I would much prefer to use the pick on him, which at least addresses a need, than on the wideouts or the TE’s that have been rumoured.

I don’t think he’s too slow to play in the 3-4. Maybe too small to play next to Vilma, but speed is not exactly the premium for LBs in the 3-4.

Bringing in a player for a workout hasn’t historically always translated to being selected for the Jets.

Poz also said he’d love to play for the Giants, which puts me off him a bit!

I personally think he is more capable of filling out and working as a potential partner to Vilma than Patrick Willis, but Willis is the better overall prospect due to his athleticism. Right now though, he’s too small. The Jets are obviously interested in his smarts and instinctiveness, and will be weighing up whether that makes him a better fit for their defense than Hobson, who is 15lbs heavier and therefore a better fit right now. If he doesn’t represent an upgrade over Hobson, that doesn’t necessarily mean he would be a bust, because of course Jonathan Vilma didn’t start immediately (as a higher pick) and he turned out pretty good.

The guy can play, but there are plenty of reasons not to pick him too, as aluded to above.
