Bill Belichick’s Tips to Effective Coaching

by R_in_CT on April 1st, 2007 at 8:09 am

In another patsblog.com exclusive, the coach shares some of the secrets that have brought him on-field success.

1. Never give a direct answer if a mumbled one will do.
2. Sometimes, a hug at midfield is worth a thousand words.
3. Dress worse than the ballboys whenever possible, as it shows humility and that you are more interested in football than fashion. Just make sure you let stadium security know so that they don’t put you in the local homeless shelter.
4. If you surround yourself with overweight assistants, you can dress in oversized clothes and no one will realize that you could stand to shed a few pounds yourself.
5. Let the other guy preach about playing to win the game while you skip the press conference to prepare a gameplan that will actually win the game.
6. You can never draft enough tight ends.
7. Never let them forget that no one can win in Cleveland.
8. Good value can be found in the 6th round.
9. Never argue when everyone thinks you own Peyton Manning even though the Colts have actually kicked your butt the last three times in a row, including twice in the playoffs.
10. Just win three Super Bowls and you can pretty much do whatever you want, including letting the greatest clutch kicker in the history of the game go off and win a fourth one without you.
11. Football is always first — you can always enjoy a smoke with your kids later.
12. Breaking up a pass properly is no more difficult than breaking up a marriage.

Once in the playoffs, twice in the regular season. 2005 season they beat the Patriots in the regular season rather handily up in Gillette finally lifting the evil curse. The Patriots later went on to lose to the Bronco’s in the playoffs.

2006 in the regular season the Patriots and Colts were a Sunday Night game – once again in Gillette, then the third victory came in the obvious AFC Championship Game in the RCA Dome.

C’mon it’s all in the details – this is why he’s yet graduated to being called Manginichick.
