Larry David Is the Guy Behind the Guy

Hey, let me ask you something…
Did you see that Adam Schefter reported on NFL.com, that apparently Larry David creator of Seinfeld and HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, is a longtime Jets fan who grew up in Sheepshead Bay, met with the Tangini while they were in L.A. last week to scout some players?
Last year, David cold-called Tannenbaum and recommended, amongst other ideas, that the Jets trade up from the No. 4 spot to draft Texas quarterback Vince Young. This year, David took it a step further. He met last weekend in Los Angeles with Tannenbaum and Jets head coach Eric Mangini, who were in the area to scout college prospects.
With something as awesome/bizzarre as this, it only gets you thinking … here’s a few of the ideas that I think David put forward during the meeting.
- All chartered team buses will now be replaced by Toyota Priuses.
- “Big Stein Calzones” will now be offered at Meadowlands concession stands.
- To feel better about themselves, this season the Jets’ will hire a PA announcer who suffers from Tourette’s Syndrome.
- To inspire his troops rather than use boxing films, Mangini will use Girls Gone Wild videos, and have the decency to PAUSE them.
- The first regular season home game will feature a mandatory colonoscopy upon admission.
- Krazee Eyez Killa will be competing for a starting linebacking spot this season.
- If Ben Stiller tries to meet any players, they are NOT allowed to shake his hand.
No word yet on whether Kellen Clemens will be traded to Tyler Chicken for alcoholic chicken.
Thanks to Chad Osborne for the tip yesterday.

Always nice to have another celebrity Jets fan, personally I love Larry David and Curb Your Enthusiasm. That’s pretty funny that he actually called up Tannenbaum with his draft suggestions, I would have loved to hear that conversation. Now if Larry David would only put out a new season of Curb, dam Larry you’ve been slackin out there in LA buddy.
In all seriousness does anyone know what the deal is with the show? Was it cancelled? If it was that wouldn’t make too much sense, being that it’s one of the funniest shows on HBO.
Yes! I remember him watching a Jets game in the show. I think it was in an early season. He was ignoring his wife talking to him, for the Jets. Sounds familiar. Seriously though, she now leaves the house with our daughter. Smart woman.
Based on his suggestion for last year, I hope MT is using this as advice for what not to do.
On the face of it, trading up for VY might seem like a decent idea, but realistically we would have had nothing like the amount of cap space for this offseason, it would have cost us one of our picks (Mangold?) and VY is a horrible fit in any offense that isn’t specifically dumbed down for him the way Tennessee’s was. Our offense was successful last year despite a lack of true talent because we used complex shifts and disguise to confuse the defense. A dumbed down version of that, with the same lineup (minus Mangold)…even with “Superman” himself at the helm would have been a disaster.
I know it’s pretty much a given, but it would have been minus Mangold AND D’Brick.
Coupled with that because of Teague’s injury, Wade Smith or Norm Katnik would have started at center.
But we could have signed Porno Gil as a tight end!
the 7:30 show is different from the 10:00 show..
i’ll be here all week!
Of course, it gets worse! Kendall was hurt early too, wasn’t he? – and we didn’t have Wade Smith by then…I shudder to think what our OL would’ve looked like.
The Jets would’ve signed McNeil in the second round and gotten their Pro Bowler at LT. (Just kidding!)
in one Seinfeld episode, George tells Jerry he could be the general manager of a baseball team. in an episodeof Curb, he tells Jeff he could be the general manager of the Knicks. Clearly it’s a fantasy of his. Even if it wouldn’t have worked for the Jets, there were a lot of doubters about Vince Young. He was right about him.
LD should play QB for the Jets. He throws hard enough to break a man’s thumbs.
