Martin Sues Insurer

by Bassett on May 22nd, 2007 at 7:34 am

So it seems that Curtis Martin has sued Lloyd’s of London, this from the Daily News:

… on July 28, 2006, Martin submitted a claim form and physician’s report to Lloyd’s of London stating that, “On or about Dec.14, 2005, plaintiff became permanently disabled as a result of a single and unexpected event, a hit to his knee, during a professional football game … and resulted in plaintiff’s total disability.” … last month, Lloyd’s informed Martin by letter that the coverage was being denied. The suit accuses Lloyd’s of breach of contract.

Ah, so that’s how Lloyd’s of London makes money off those cockamamie insurance policies!

If you are unfamiliar, Lloyd’s insure odd things, like singer’s voices, trademark features of actors or often in the case of a model, their whole body … Claudia Schiffer I believe has done that. I guess I don’t exactly understand why Lloyd’s refuses to pay, but you can read the whole complaint, as I received a copy of it.

i believe the dispute hinges on whether martin’s disability was caused by a single act or was the result of degenerative wear and tear

Probably would have helped his case if he actually retired. Can not be permanently disabled while collecting a pay check, as he did all last season, and as he continues to angle for this season.

If he wins, does he repay the Jets? Do they get a salary cap break?

Just retire already, dont make the Jets cut you.
