I believe the readers of this site are very astute. Rather than the knee jerk "cut him now" answer, which achieves nothing, we believe they should try to work something out, which at least in my opinion means try to trade him for a 2008 pick or meet him in the middle and give him a little bonus to shut his mouth.

There is no reason to cut him now. That is exactly what he wants since he will immediately be snatched up by MIA for more money than he is scheduled to earn. At least if they trade him they can move him out of the division.

For the record, there is no protection for the player by adding extra years, only the team benefits since there is no guaranteed money.

Mr. T screwed this one up, they either planned to draft a guard to replace him or planned to sign Andruzzi, both of which back fired. But Mangini is correct that there is plenty of this in every NFL camp, not unique to the Jets and should not be overblown.

Bassett, I just saw the results of the tbj poll? What are your readers smokin?

The only way "to work something out" is to give Kendall, a guy with three years remaining on his contract, more money or trade him to a team that will. Do we really want every player on this team to complain they are underpaid and act the distraction because it is the way to get traded to a team willing to pay them more or to get more money from the Jets.

If Kendall fired his agent, complained his agent lied to him and was stupid for having him sign his contract, I might have some empathy for his plight. But PK signed a contract that gives a player whatever protection is offered by extra years rather than risk being a FA at the end of a year and is now complaining he is not reaping the rewards of not taking that risk.

Frankly, I am shocked.

The other reason the pass rush could improve is if the run defense is tightened up. Nothing helps the pass rush more than 3rd and longs as opposed to 3rd and 1, 2 or three.

There have been lots of theories among those of us who are not the Jets brain trust as to the failure to the Jets running D (Vilma and DRob too small, players in the wrong place at the wrong time, Kimo Von Do Nothing doing nuthin, etc.).

If Vilma and DRobb are not too small and know the D better this year AND if Kenyon, David Harris and Revis can tighten things up, perhaps our Run D will improve. That will improve the pass rush too.

It had better. Personally, I doubt the utility of Vilma and DRobb in this D and will need to be convinced by results on the field. I think much of Tangini's credibility is on the line with these guys because both, especially Vilma had value this off season.

A guy who had 4 sacks as a reserve last year replaces a guy who had one as a starter. How does this not improve the pass rush? No-one is expecting 18 sacks, but even if he gets three, that's an improvement.

If our pass rush improves drastically, it will most likely be because of Bowens or maybe even Wadsworth.

We just need Coleman to be solid and that will be an upgrade over Kimo, who by most people's estimation wasn't solid.
