Leon Washington on Thomas Jones
Leon Washington was asked about Thomas Jones, and his work ethic by the Post:
“We were doing lifting and conditioning and then some of us left. We came back and he was still there four hours after everybody else was gone. That’s the type of leadership that’s good for me and Cedric to see. It makes us get extra work in.”
When asked about what Jones means for his role, Washington was optimistic:
“He played in the big game and he can help us get there. We need to learn from him.”
Honestly, I don’t think Washington’s role would be that much different, but the third back’s might. Leon only had 20 or more carries twice all season, but I would expect to still see him in the 10-20 touches per game range, as Jones is optimal at around 20 carries himself. The big difference is how different are the two players? That might be what limits Washington’s role. On this roster though, Washington is the second best back (barring a return from Martin).

Defenses will be “splitting hairs” trying to stop these two young dynamos! They will compliment each other well. Its a win-win situation for the Jets.
