Breaking News: Curtis Martin Activated Off PUP List

by Bassett on July 13th, 2007 at 12:57 am

According to NFL.com, Curtis Martin has been activated off the PUP list. After taking another readjustment to his contract just about a month ago, this might be the final step before a formal announcement is made regarding his retirement sometime between now and camp. We’ll let you know more as we hear it.

Like I know all of us believe, just like that guy named Chrebet who retired last year, he deserved a championship, but that doesn’t detract from him being a champion …

Since he’s now on the active roster, I guess he’s entitled to a ring when we win it all in January.

Apparently Cam Cameron is considering taking him first in his fantasy draft.

    Nice wishful thinking Bent!

Bassett your statements with regards to Cherbet and Martin couldn’t have been said any better, let’s hope we can get Curtis that ring this year.

    Can’t wait for camp!

Perhaps we can sign Wayne (not me) to the veteran minimum too so they both can get rings. Why not Vinny too!!

Of course we would be playing two roster spots short and paying and wasting 1.7 Million of cap space.

Sorry, Curtis was great but this saga has gone on long enough.

Unless he really thinks he can play and is willing to try and earn a third string role, it is time to make the announcement and get this behind us.

What are the rules regarding roster spots if he suits up for a preseason game then retires following the game? Would we lose the roster spot for the full regular season? Call me crazy, but for some reason I have a feeling that we may see Martin in a preseason game if it doesn’t affect the roster spots in the regular season.

    sjf-

there is two sets of cutdowns, so as you suggest roster spots wouldn’t be effected. i don’t know why activating him makes a difference, but i get the feeling we won’t get to see him suit up again.

As a long time New England Patriot fan I feel I have to comment on the anouncement of Curtis Martin retiring, I was deeply sadden when he left the Patriots, I always wished him well he had an awesome career, but above all that he was and is a class act, a person that all the young athletes can aspire to be. I wish him well in whatever he decides to do.
