Yeah, But Can He Play Left Guard?

by Drack on August 31st, 2007 at 10:13 pm

In other cutdown news, it looks as if the Jaguars will part ways with QB Byron Leftwich, either via trade or pure release.

Many in Jetdom have clamored for a more experienced back-up to Chad Pennington. How do TJB readers feel? Is there room on the Jets roster for two former Marshall QBs?

The Jags made a huge mistake, he would have led them to the playoffs. You would think they had seen enough of Garrard last year. They’ll be taking a QB in the first round next year.

Byron Leftwich is going to either go to a team where he can start or go to a team where he’ll eventually be starting(see: Baltimore. They wanted him badly in the draft).

WOW! NFL Channel just announced that Rodney Harrison has been suspended for four games beginning immediately for band substance- cool.

Regarding Leftwich- he always seems to be hurt, ever since his lineman carried him down the field his senior year! Hasn’t played up to potential- who knows if he can get healthy he has a great upside.

To me, this decision should have little or nothing to do with Pennington. It’s the Kellen Clemens question again. What does the front office think it has in Kellen?

I’m still not sold on Clemens and was always a fan of Leftwich since Marshall. I wouldn’t mind seeing him on the team, but I think the poster above was correct in that Byron will probably be looking for a team where he could contend to start sooner rather than later.

As much as I like leftwich, I just don’t see the jets being a likely landing place, considering there is already a clear starter and a qb of the future on the roster.

More likely destinations are probably teams like Baltimore, Green Bay (does anyone have faith in rodgers?), Minnesota, and Atlanta.

I think Leftwich will go to the falcons because they have Joey Harrington and looking back at his career with the lions. His Preseason was pretty impressive but it doesn’t convenice me that he will have a good regular season much less make it to the playoffs. Most say the falcons at best will be 8-8. But the Jets could use a good back up and i’ve never really liked Leftwich but when he’s not hurt he is ok. I agree that he will go to a place to where he will be able to compete for a starting job soon.

leftwich gets hurt a lot because of his long throwing motion that begins at his knees. a qb with that kind of slow release is only a good fit on a team with a strong o-line….

  8. avatar Doctor K says:

Grumbler, same could be said of Pennington. It almost seems like he has a release in slow motion. With his current o-line, he better learn to fire it early or use his feet better. (Not on his repertoire as outstanding attributes).
Waiting to see the site post on Harrison’s suspension, and its effect on Game 1.

I didnt see much of Leftwich but to me he seemed to be too inaccurate to be a really good NFL QB.

Are you people insane! No way. This guy is a poor mans Penny.

i heard he demanded to be traded or released when he saw he wasn’t going to starting in J’Ville…so what makes you guys think he wants to be a back up on our team??

And i personally think he has underachieved in the league and would rather put my money on Clemens…amen.
