  1. Kiss of death, I know, but Seymour’s absence has sent me dreamily off and indulging in improbable fictions (after all what is Weds. before opening day for). If past is prologue, Bender’s first act has set him up for cult hero status. Seventh round, division II country kid starts opening day against the Pats. Pundits fear for Pennington’s safety. The offensive line bonds through adversity, Bender jerseys sighted among the Chrebets and Bruce Harper 42s. And then, well, they actually play the game…

  2. hey basset,

there’s not much time to get it done for this year, but maybe next year you could set up a jetsblog suicide pool. (where everyone picks one team to win each week, but can not pick the same team twice in one season). i bet a lot of ppl on here would be into that.

or I suppose it could be a 2007 pool minus week 1.

  3. Hi Basset: I think your “work the kinks” link is broken. Thanks!

    Mike

  4. Interesting how both Moss and Thomas Jones have been held out all preseason…as pointed out in the NewsDay article. While I’m sure both players were injured, I think each coach didn’t mind keeping the other from getting an opportunity to see them on film with their new team with clues as to how they might be used.

  5. I don’t think the Bender jersey would be a big seller here in England, for the same reason that Rudy Gay jerseys aren’t.

Hope you’re right though, as unlikely as it sounds.

  6. The Record is right, the Jets are gambling with the Guard position. The difference between Me and The Record is that I said it yesterday, and you’ll SEE it Sunday. :(

  7. You mean as in Toby Tosser jerseys? I’m not sure I appreciate the idiomatic implications of Bender though. On one? Please advise before I dress and travel.

  8. Pretty much.

    http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=bender (definition number 1, option 2).

I must also point out that even though I am Bent, I’m not.

On a bender is a phrase that we use over here for a drinking binge too, but it has an undercurrent of euphemism thanks to the above definition too.

Note: My favourite (sic) soccer team shelled out a $33m transfer fee for a guy named Darren Bent. His jersey is not a big seller either.

  9. that’s what i thought. the expression travels. still a great tradition here that i doubt would hurt the jersey’s pop status. sorry to here about england.

  10. I should have read your link before replying. I forgot about definition 2.
