Jets sign OL Will Montgomerey

by John Mattera on September 19th, 2007 at 11:38 am

I just saw this being reported on www.kffl.com.

Montgomerey played for the Carolina Panthers last year as a reserve offensive lineman.

I will try to find out more information on him and post it shortly!

UPDATE:  Here’s a scouting report on Montgomery:

Montgomery has a solid combination of toughness, technique and versatility. He can play guard or center. He is a compact lineman who plays with decent technique and a mean streak. He has above-average quickness off the ball and into blocking patterns. He relies on angles and body position. He is strong enough to get position and wall off inside. He plays with enough balance getting upfield on combo blocks. He flashes the ability to play under control in space on short pulls. He can slide and mirror off short pass sets. He uses his hands well enough and plays with awareness. He reacts well to inside games and zone fires. But Montgomery doesn’t stand out in any area. He doesn’t always play big in the run game. He lacks explosiveness. He sometimes struggles to reset his hands in pass protection. He has trouble maintaining pocket depth against bull rushers.

I had a late 7th/undrafted grade on WM in 2006. He is pretty strong in the running game but really struggled against the likes of Orien Harris and Broderick Bunkley in his Senior year.

The Jets sign a offensive lineman with a nasty streak? Put him next to D’Brick. Maybe it’s contagious.
