Joe Benigno jokingly accused Vilma of having “stopped playing” after taking an 18 point lead this morning on WFAN, here’s Jon’s response.
I wouldn’t say we took the rest of the day off … but we obviously had issues with the screen … that’s no secret. But it was also good play calling on their part, they were able to do a good job catching us in a couple blitzes and then running a screen on the other side so … you have to give them credit and we have to make sure that if they do hit a screen that we can’t let the play extend … that we have to make the tackle if it’s for a five or ten yard gain and then be done with it.
Sean made a similar comment you can read here yesterday. Extensive blitzing exposes a team the screen pass, so either live with the lack of rush up front, or allow teams to counter the blitz.

I dunno, the one screen I saw on the lowlights was a four man rush with JV the fourth rusher.
Not a blitz, but a misdirection where the LOLB fell for the surge left leaving the entire side of the field wide open.
Whatever happened to “reading” a screen? Would not that be JV’s responsibility? After you are beaten repeatedly would you not at least be alert of the possibility?
Too easy to just say, he “we blitzed, good call”.
And on offense, why don’t the Jets ever call a screen at the right time.
It almost seems as if the opponent knows the plays, not becuase of any spying but rather they are tipping off the blitz some other way?

Hopefully, we can eventually disguise a blitz to lure the opposition into a screen and then drop someone into coverage (even a lineman) for an easy pick six. When it happens, remember where you heard it first.
