Mangini on Erik Coleman’s Concussion

by Bassett on October 4th, 2007 at 3:14 pm

Mangini today on Erik Coleman’s concussion and how it manifested itself.

“We’ll evaluate it as we go. We take concussions extremely seriously. He’ll be out for practice today and we’ll see how it goes through the rest of the week. Any time a player has an issue, we always go through that protocol. This was something that actually developed after the game in terms of the symptoms and things like that.”

Glad to see that this is being taken seriously. Coleman is a tough player who has played through injuries in the past, like his broken hand?/wrist? in 2005. As the leading tackler on the team (NEVER good when it’s a Safety) so far, he could be missed this weekend. Even though the Jets give up a lot of yards on the ground, it’s rare there are ever gains of more than 20 yards. Should we see a sudden number of those this weekend, you’ll have your answer on the why.

I hate to see Coleman go down, but let’s see if big E.Smith can step up and give us that hard hitting presence in the secondary.

I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT Mr COLEMAN SHALL BE GIVEN A REPRISE!….No football game merits a broken future from ignoring concussions.
Further Mr.Eric Smith is certainly good enough to play in his stead respectably. You can be sure that the slightly diminished
capacity at safety will be far less of an issue than the offensive line’s inability to create holes for Mr.Thomas Jones and the resultant attendant problems therefrom arising.
I have a feeling that if we continue with the 4 and 5 man defensive fronts AND if (God forbid)we let the delightfully mischievous Mr Rhodes wander
hither-dither with his disruptive inclinations,we are going to make it a challenging day for Mr.Manning.
My feeling is that the crux of this particular game hangs on our offensive line to make some oppurtunities.
In lieu of that, one could import Mr.Polamahu to play in E.Coleman’s stead for a game…and it wouldn’t change the result.
