chad played horrible today with the 3 picks..they def cost us the game, but I don't really think its his arm strength that caused them..just really bad decisions. im a fan of his, but at his point..its going to come a point really soon that clemens has to play. remember its only year 2 of mangini..last year was great, but its time to get better players, and even if we do make a late season run for the playoffs, with NE being so good in the AFC the chances of the jets making it to the superbowl are close to zero..

After reading most of your quotes and points I think the onus is on the offense. No running game and quick 3 and outs makes for a long day for a defense. Not to mention the WRs getting creamed while they are exposed on some passes. Chad had more time today than we've seen in the past few games and stunk up the Meadowlands. It is on him today and I'll be waiting to hear if he says as much. Is it just me or has he been real quiet in the media?

I don't know if Clemens is ready or not or if he's as bad as some of you feel but I do know that Chad is supposed to get Ws and if he's not...well we all know his shortcomings.

Considering part of my optimism was based on Chad being healthier a year after surgery and rehab he does not seem stronger. Perhaps it is even his ankle that is making his arm even weaker. There were definitely visions in of this weakness in `06 and he had 16 INTs last year to only 17 TDs. If the offense could sustain drives I think the defense would look better than they did.

I am not a Pennington hater, but I have to pin this lose on Chad. Yes, Nugent and the run defense wear goat horns too, but Chad's INTs were all crucial. The first one Sam Madison left his man going deep to jump the pass to Cotchery. Think about that...what CB leaves the deep man to jump the pattern on the short pass? One who doesn't fear the long pass. A terrible pick in Giants territory. The second pick, again deep in Giants territory was one of the worst passes and decisions of Chad's career. And, the last was, again, a jumped short pattern for a TD. Now, we can fault the defense for giving up a 98 yard drive after the second Chad pick, but let's not minimize how huge and how deflating that pick was. The Jets were leading 24-21. A TD puts the Jets back up 10 points with 12 minutes (or less) left in the game. Do the Giants still run? With just a FG, the Giants still would've run, but that pick changed the whole complexion of the game. The last pick was icing on the cake, but that was another bad pick and the Jets could've still won the game, even with the poor 2nd half run defense.
I do not know if Clemens is the answer, but the Jets have had 2 games that have turned on Chad picks and 3 INTs have been on jumped patterns. The NFL has figured Chad out and like I said last week, Chad has to be perfect because of his inability to stretch a defense vertically for the Jets to win. Well, he's been far less than perfect these past 2 weeks. Plus, let's not forget that teams play up in the box because of the lack of fear as to the deep ball. That has negatively impacted the run offense.
Yes, the run defense is awful, the OL is not good at opening up holes in the running game and Nugent had a bad FG miss, but the last 2 weeks, all that would've been wiped away by good QB play.

here's the bottom line on our QB situation. chad is not the kind of QB who can put the team on his shoulders and carry it. the jets are not good enough to simply have a caretaker QB. it's time to see if clemens is the type of QB who can carry his team.

let's get it started already. put #11 in.

It's over for another year... again. I love what Chad has done for us in the past, but it's clear his play is costing this team. It may have everything to do with his ankle, but it is costing us. Start the Clemens era and give the kid a trial by fire.

Our run defense is pathetic. Our offensive line is erratic. Sometimes they hold off the rush and sometimes they let it right though.

I just don't get how this team could be this bad in only 1 season. The only answers I have are age and coaching. Where is the innovative offense that we saw last year? Did Schott throw out his playbook or something? Why sign Jones if your're not going to use him? If he hasn't recovered from his preseason injury, then let Washington do the running. And what is Sutton doing?? Rhodes was a Pro Bowl snub last year, but this year he's almost invisible. I can't remember seeing a good blitz package.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I don't see the Jets turning this around this year. I suppose we need a little bit of encouragement. How's this: It could be worse, we could be Dolphins fans.

Me too andrew. I think I'm done this year unless Clemens shows some magical touch. Chad is the only reason of our being 1-3 if not 1-4. Being in DC, all I want now is them beating the skins. As a matter of facts I dont mind players getting traded before the trade deadline. Might as well deal some and position ourselves for next yr. While we are at it, we should now give the next 11 games to Clemens and see what we got.

Man, this team is terrible. LBs, DL, CBs, OL, QB, RB. And coaching. Only the WRs are a bright spot and I fear for their lives right now. Only 11 months till the next meaningful game.

Speaking of the line, I'm curious about Bender's development. I know he's a project, but since he's known for run blocking and the team is struggling to do that, I wonder if he may see the field sooner rather than later? Then again, he hasn't been active yet, so . ..

By the way, if I hadn't made chocolate milk for my kids tonight, I'd never have seen McCareins today. Smith is clearly the #3 now.

I do feel better about it. He's not anywhere near the run blocker Marcus McNeil is, and I think that he is one of the reasons why the team can't run the ball on anyone. That said, he's doing his job in pass protection. You also see how using two first round picks on the OL is kind of a pyrrhic victory, as they can be neutralized by weaknesses at the other line spots. Both Ferguson and Mangold are playing well, and yet the Jets have one of the more ineffective offensive lines in the league.

seanmac --

I also noticed that D'Brick has been doing very well this year. He's neutralized Taylor, Schoebel and Osi three weeks in a row. Showing great improvement.

I remember before last year's draft, you said, "If they draft Ferguson, I'll throw a brick through my TV." Do you feel any better about the move now? Or does it depend if Clemens develops like Leinart? Just curious.
