Laveranues Coles was asked about Chad’s day. Here was the captain’s response
“You can’t say anything about Chad. You can’t put Chad out in front of this team. We lost as a team and if you have to try to blame somebody or are looking to point the finger, it’s definitely not at him … yup, we’re behind anyone we line up with – we all stick together. That’s one of the great things about being a part of this team. I don’t like the record but I do like this group of guys, that’s the main thing. We’ve just got to stick together and fight through this.”
He’s right, there were a number of plays that led to the loss, but it certainly wasn’t one of Pennington’s best outings.

excellent points….all of em. pleasure to read. honestly cant remember the last time i saw 2 of the poorest plays by 2 invidual players then chads endzone pick and dysons 2 hand touch tackle. buress did grab his facemask and get the fingers in there a for a second or 2…but not enough to be a call.

The JETS are a bad team all around. Watching them is painful. They have zero pash rush, zero run game and Chad’s give all the responsibility. And I think his weak arm is just too weak to save these close games. I mean, the fact is, he has made terrible decisions at the end of two games… and those decisions cost the games. So, it is a team loss — terrible D, terrible O-line, but Chad couldn’t pull the rabbit out of the hat when given the chance. It’s time to bring out Clemens and see what he can do or it’s time to just pack it in and hope for 1-15 and get the best draft pick we can… WE LOST TO THE BILLS for crying out loud. We are the worst team in football… The Raiders look better than we do.

JP, there was no rabbit to pull out. Chad’s second pick was AWFUL. He was in the redzone, a FG would’ve put the Jets up 7 points with 12 minutes left, a TD puts them up 10 points. The pressure would’ve been on the Giants. Chad didn’t have to save the Jets; he just didn’t have to hurt them, which he did.
Another point, there’s a bunch of potential franchise QBs that will be in the draft next year. If the Jets are headed for a top 10 pick, then let’s find out if Clemens is the future, because the present with Chad is not pretty.

It’s very simple: there are a lot of problems on this team, but the QB problem is the ONLY one whose solution is easily and immediately available.
The season has already slipped away; the AFC is too strong for a 1-4 team, especially one with a defense like the Jets’, to come back and make the playoffs. We’re past the tipping point of “Chad still gives us the better chance to win right now.” There is, quite simply, no sensible reason to start Chad next week.

I told ya CB Aaron Ross (6’1 193) would prove hes a STUD! Revis will be good but like i said the difference is Revis is SOLID is everything but doesn’t STAND OUT in nothing.
Ross is a playmaker! He’s on every play extremely active and physical. You Jet fans obviously didn’t notice but Ross got benched the whole 1st half because he violated a team rule and ever since he took over in the 2nd half in Washington all he’s been doing is making plays.
The guy had 2 picks in one quarter! Revis has been struggling last 3 games! Right now with Revis and Leon Hall not playing well Ross is the best CB!

The blame for this mess goes to Tannenbaum and Mangini. Two years into their regime and it looks like it will be at least another two before we’re competitve. When do they get held accountable? I think we were all too generous with the praise last year for what now appears to be the product of a soft schedule (in retrospect, doesn’t it seem like an act of incredible hubris that Mangini appeared on the Sopranos? What has he accomplished to merit that cameo?). It’s nice that they want to copy the Patriots’ model of building with low cost (at least until this year), interchangable parts. The small detail they missed is that the Pats players can actually play. The Jets parts are interchangable b/c they all suck.

Sackdance- you have summed up my thoughts exactly, I used to back Chad but he clearly is not giving us the best chance to win! Not only are the bad passes hurting but even his decisions- in the first quarter the Jets when on offense caught the Giants in a defense where the Giants were confused lining up and ended up putting LB Mitchele out on Cotchery- a complete miss match with no safety help and Chad didn’t pick this up and audible he went the other way! I was screaming in my seat! On the other side Manning recognized that Dyson was one on one with Burris and no safety help and we saw that outcome! I don’t mean to pick out all the little things but when you add them all up it hurts us! To me the writing was on the wall when in the second pre-season game against the Vikings Sharper completely and without any regard to the deep ball was jumping all the pass routes- I felt then that’s how teams are going to play Chad! and with the DB’s playing so close to the line it clearly is hurting the running game! I wonder how long Mangini sticks with Chad knowing that they drafted Clemens- when do they find out what he’s got?

One note about Ross, if he played for the Jets he would have been inactive for violating teams rules and in the doghouse the rest of the season.
It is possible to over discipline players to the detriment of the team. At that point, you are punishing the other players and fans for one players mistake.
Coughlin handled it perfectly, Mangini would have overreacted and possibly cost the team a game.

Ellis, Robertson, Vilma,Rhodes, Revis, the talented Jets’ players have looked lost in all 5 games. These are very good players, and I do not believe that suddenly they forgot how to play football.
Cotchery, Coles, Thomas, Washington, Smith, Baker and Chad are very good players too. Talent wise, this team may not match with the PATS but it is not an 1-4 team. When the sum of the parts is greater and better than the whole, you know that all that TEAM TALK is just that, TALK and the primary culprit is coaching. While it appears that players like Chad, Nuge, Dyson.. etc have made mistakes and are responsible for the record, I suspect that the problem is much bigger. We may need a COACH!
We are in NY and for a coach we get a 35 year old PROSPECT?
So, we suffer, he learns to coach in the job for the next four years, then he leaves and we go out there and get another PROSPECT?
Herm, Eric,..Next? We suffer again…The FO and Ownership must be held responsible for this product.Shame on them!

Sackdance is right on the money. It is not going to happen for the Jets this season. The AFC is too good and the Jets’ schedule is too difficult. It is time to see what the Jets have in Clemens. If Clemens does not develop as a dependable starter, then the Jets must address the position in the draft next year (particularly since it looks like they will have another early pick).

My biggest concern with Chad is that his play affects the running game and our opportunity to control the clock. Due to this our defense gets tired by being on the field, leading to meltdowns and long drives by the Opp.
Chad has always been brilliant in red zone and no-huddle, but last 2 weeks its killed us. KC has to start next week for us. If he plays as good as second half of BAL game then we can even think about competeing for a wild card spot(But that asking too much). And on top of that, QB seems to be the only position where we can make a change and affect the game.

Coles and Chad are buddies, but I will repeat my last comment:
I am not a Pennington hater, but I have to pin this loss on Chad. Yes, Nugent and the run defense wear goat horns too, but Chad’s INTs were all crucial. The first one Sam Madison left his man going deep to jump the pass to Cotchery. Think about that…what CB leaves the deep man to jump the pattern on the short pass? One who doesn’t fear the long pass. A terrible pick in Giants territory. The second pick, again deep in Giants territory was one of the worst passes and decisions of Chad’s career. And, the last was, again, a jumped short pattern for a TD. Now, we can fault the defense for giving up a 98 yard drive after the second Chad pick, but let’s not minimize how huge and how deflating that pick was. The Jets were leading 24-21. A TD puts the Jets back up 10 points with 12 minutes (or less) left in the game. Do the Giants still run? With just a FG, the Giants still would’ve run, but that pick changed the whole complexion of the game. The last pick was icing on the cake, but that was another bad pick and the Jets could’ve still won the game, even with the poor 2nd half run defense.
I do not know if Clemens is the answer, but the Jets have had 2 games that have turned on Chad picks and 3 INTs have been on jumped patterns. The NFL has figured Chad out and like I said last week, Chad has to be perfect because of his inability to stretch a defense vertically for the Jets to win. Well, he’s been far less than perfect these past 2 weeks. Plus, let’s not forget that teams play up in the box because of the lack of fear as to the deep ball. That has negatively impacted the run offense.
Yes, the run defense is awful, the OL is not good at opening up holes in the running game and Nugent had a bad FG miss, but the last 2 weeks, all that would’ve been wiped away by good QB play.
