Buzz: Jon Vilma Out for the Season?
From Chad to worse? Is Vilma done for the year? Rich Cimini seems to think so, and has noted so in the Daily News.
Inside linebacker Jonathan Vilma, their defensive leader, has sustained a “significant” knee injury,
the Daily News has learned. The prognosis wasn’t immediately known, but the mere fact that it was termed significant means that Vilma probably needs surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.
I’m guessing that Cimini must have talked to not talked to Vilma’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus to get this information, since the agent is a demagogue can’t talk to the media about Jets’ players injuries. Cimini goes on
Vilma evidently went for an MRI exam later Monday, after his radio show, and received the sobering news. Today, Vilma was excused from practice because he underwent “some more tests,” Mangini said.
This is a hard blow to the Jets, but maybe one that might have some silver linings … maybe Harris gets more work and familiarity with the scheme, and maybe Vilma’s value is shelved if they Jets choose to trade him, or bring him back next year with a real freaking nose tackle for crap’s sake.

This is surely a blessing in disguise. I really think it puts our best defense on the field and will help put back the consistency that we are so lacking right now. Keep Harris and Barton on the inside and let DBo/Thomas roam the outside with Hobson on the other side coming in on occasion for the blitz. Move DRob to the outside with Pouha or Mosley at NT and let Mangini call the shots on D. Bob Sutton will be fired by season ’s end. Who’s our D-line coach again?
Dan Quinn is our d-line coach. Very good coach. Came over from Miami. Would not be suprised if he was promoted to coordinator at season’s end.
How about bringing back Corwin Brown? He seems to have enjoyed pretty good success since taking over as DC for Notre Dame.

Good riddance.
Like it’s any surprise that Vilma got hurt playing in the middle of that mess.
It’s kinda like, either go to a 4-3 or 4-6, but the 3-4 with the likes of NT Robertson, OLB Thomas (I mean c’mon), the fleet footed OLB Hobson, who is our other DE opposite Ellis? who?
That front seven is horrible, I still love my team but what the heck is going on here?
I think our defense last year was putrid, and that was against a last place schedule. who didn’t see this coming?
listen you guys have to give the man a few years to get a full assortment of his guys in here. 3-4 ends are not suited to get to the quarterback. greg ellis and chris canty in dallas are not their big pass rushers. it is ware and spencer the OLB’s. we have 1 def end for the future in Coleman. 1 bonafide MLB in Harris. 1 bonafide 3-4 backer in BT. 1 Great Safety and 1 Great Corner. the big part of the 3-4 is the plug in the middle, WHICH WE DONT HAVE. once we get the plug you will see significant improvement. you have to give it time, rome wasnt built in a day!
Color me sentimental, but I think Vilman is terrific. He’s inspirational, he’s brave, and he plays hard. Not that I really understand the modern defense, but he would seem miscast in the 3-4. All the players on defense seem like round pegs in square holes. Explain this to me: about half of them are first rounders, and in this scheme they all seem to stink. But trade them to New England, and they would be All-Pro. My take on the season is this: without a run game, your QB looks terrible; without a pass rush, you get shredded in the secondary. I am also for radical solutions: Hence, I would make Anthony Clement a nose tackle, D’Brick a pass rusher here and there, and play a 5-2-4 to generate some pressure. But don’t worry: no one is calling me to coach.
Permisson to make a personal comment aimed toward matthewm?
Granted.
Mangina , Kotite, Coslet brothers or the same man? Until our coaching staff changes the results won’t . Buffalo 24 Jest 13 . long season indeed
