News: Laveranues Likely To Sit Out

by Bassett on November 1st, 2007 at 8:14 am

Laveranues will likely sit on Sunday versus the Redskins Sunday due to the concussion he received in last week’s game, but at this point, there’s been no determiniation.

Coach Eric Mangini addressed Coles’ injury during a conference call with Redskins beat writers. Mangini didn’t mention Coles in his earlier news conference with Jets writers.

“Any time you have an injury it is scary,” Mangini said. “With a guy like Laveranues who is so tough, you have to be careful and make sure you go through the same process that you would go through with every other player. That is what we are doing.”

If Coles sits, Clemens surest receiver will be off the field, but remember that McCareins worked with Clemens a lot over the summer in camp as second teamers. It will be interesting to see who is the second receiver most of the day … Smith or McCareins? My guess is Smith as he ascended to the #3 WR already.

This will give Clemens a player who can stretch the field in McCareins, and then two quick durable players to work with in shorter routes in Smith and Cotchery. I’d also expect to see Clemens throwing to his backs often.

I hope he doesn’t play. Was at Sunday’s game and hit was right in front of where we were sitting. Coles didn’t get up for a few minutes and looked quite shaken heading back to the bench. When you throw in last year’s concussion, I’m thinking he needs to take the week off. The Jets have had too many receivers lose out on parts of their career to head injuries and at this point in the season there’s no reason to rush Coles back into action.
