Behind Enemy Lines: Five Questions For a Skins Blogger
Please see my answers to the questions from Hogs Haven.
Thanks to the gang from Hogs Haven, an SBNation blog, we have some thoughts on the Jets-Redskins matchup from someone who follows the Redskins religiously. Hogs Haven is an excellent and oft updated source for Skins info, and they were kind enough to take the time to answer our questions:
The defense has been the best part of the Redksins this season, in what ways have they been most successful against opposing teams?
HH: Gregg Williams put together some really outstanding gameplans against Green Bay and Detroit, two teams that were on fire passing the ball up until they played us. The success has been, much to my surprise, in not blitzing. Surprising because that’s exactly what we did at various times last year, and we were torched. Williams has much improved personnel on the field and is letting them do their job. We’ve had a more significant push with the front four which has changed the entire defensive landscape. Most notably, we’re actually generating turnovers.
Pete Kendall was a much loved player in New York, and his trade was sad for many a Jets fan. Tell us your impressions of the Guard and how he has contributed so far this season?
HH: Despite concerns about a various injuries (knee, hamstring) Kendall has yet to miss time, which means he’s a rare commodity on a Redskins line that has been busted up. I love the guy because we brought him in as an absolute need (Todd Wade was set to take the position, and he clearly cannot handle the job) but also because he’s a very funny and smart dude. Everything I’ve read of him has been positive. Bottom line is that he’s a dependable veteran on an injured offensive line, which makes him about as valuable a football player as this team has.
We Jets fans know all about Bill Belichick. Since you have your finger on the pulse, what was most fans’ reaction to the game last week?
HH: Redskins fans were split, and this is just an informal survey, 50-50 between royal indignation at the Patriots and royal indignation at the Redskins defense. I don’t want to second guess a coach who is 8-0, but what I’ve heard from fans speaking specifically to his decisions were a) that it was stupid to keep Brady in the game that late and b) the 2nd going-for-it-on-4th with Cassell in the game was the most ridiculous, since the score and time almost certainly guaranteed victory, were it not decided sooner. My personal opinion is that I just don’t care. Running up the score does not bother me, though I do appreciate the opinion of Redskins fans who disagree. Reasonable minds can disagree.
Jason Campbell is a QB who many NFL fans outside of the Beltway don’t know much about … what can you tell us of your teams’ QB?
HH: Lots of potential but has demonstrated a problem holding onto the ball this year. Very well groomed, his mustache commands a lot of respect on the internet for its skills in magic. He is a leader with a reputation for coolness under pressure, which he’s been in a lot this year due to the offensive line injuries. I think the jury is still very much out on him, but at this moment he is the guy per me and per many, most Redskins fans.
Prediction Time: What’s the final score of the game?
HH: Our offense is inept but so is your defense. I think the Redskins will win this one (I would, though) but it won’t be a terribly high scoring affair. I give you guys 10 points, and we’ll take 20. 20-10.

Thanks again Bassett, great questions and answers. I appreciate it.
I love the idea of corresponding with a blogger from the opposition. Bassett, do you contribute to any of the opposition blogs in a similar manner?
Hi Zen-
Yes, will post reciprocal link into the post … but click the hogshaven link for his questions for me.
