News: Jonathan Vilma to Undergo Surgery
For those of you who think this was some whole vast right wing conspiracy, it appears that Jonathan Vilma is going under the knife tomorrow in Florida to repair damage from his chronic knee condition. Typically, little was stated by the team.
… coach Eric Mangini, in making the announcement this morning, would not specify the type of surgery or give a timetable for Vilma’s recovery. Vilma was injured in a 38-31 loss at Cincinnati, on Oct. 21 and placed on season-ending injured reserve six days later.
From Vilma’s journal on his website, it was surgery or therapy, and he wanted to use surgery as a last resort, so I don’t think he would be doing this if he didn’t absolutely have to, and to facilitate a faster return to the field, and maybe a faster trip out of town (if that’s what both sides want).
Sorry that there’s not more to this, and if you think that Mangini would go public with a fake surgery then you need to get into some beachfront property I have in Arizona …
TJB hopes for a speedy recovery for Jon.

Bassett: are you talking to me? I’d love some beachfront property in AZ. Isn’t Lake Havasu there? I think that the surgery is fake–they can go in with a scope, just take a look, and not do anything. Moreover, I think most professional athletes can have their knees scoped out to clean up soft tissue damage at any time. Sometimes, players comeback from these procedures in a couple of weeks. No need to go on IR for that kind of “injury.”
Seriously, though, I wouldn’t put it past these guys. They are shady.
R in Ct: are you with me?
p.s. what does elam have on Tangini? bad pics or something? that guy has no business being on the field.
why is he having surgery if the whole thing is a hoax?

You know I love conspiracy theories, and at first, I thought there might be something here, however . . . if they’re really cutting into the guy, I’d say it’s to actually fix something. Sorry! No agent worth his salt would let his client be operated on without a legitimate reason.
That being said, they may have said to him, with the season already lost, why not shut it down and take a full rehab? Even if it was a six-week rehab, what would there be for him to rush back to? A 3-10 team? That makes sense.
Bottom line though — Vilma is obviously legitimately and somewhat significantly hurt. And I hope he has a speedy and full recovery — I know I’ve been critical of his tackling skills, but you can’t criticize his preparation, commitment or effort.
and you guys can all call me crazy, but I still think JV can be an effective ILB in this defense. We just need a legitimate 3-4 D-line
I am sick think Vilma is leaving the team, he was our D in 2005 and know Mangini is forcing him out, just sickening. I dont like where this franchise is heading, some very questionable moves have been made this year. We have made a complete 360 this year
Alright, with R in Ct’s nuding, I’ll admit he is probably injured to some degree.
Though I still think it might be a surgery that could have been performed in the off-season. Many times, players play through minor injuries and then get things taken care of after the season. The article Bassett links to says it is likely an injury relating to a condition Vilma has had since before the Jets drafted him. Under those circumstances, it seems like he would have waited if he wasn’t benched for poor play.
This outcome is good for everyone, though. He will recover just fine, everyone can blame his poor play this year (and perhaps last year as well) on the injury, and we can trade him to one of the 15 or so teams in the league that can use a smart, fast, undersized 4-3 MLB. Does KC have anyone good playing MLB? Even Miami might be a good option–Zach Thomas is pretty close to the end of the line.
p.s. Bassett: why must the conspiracy be “right wing?” As a social liberal, I wish my side could pull off some good conspiracies.
Reports today are using words like “microfracture”. In other words, wave goodbye to JV’s trade value.
Is the fact that JV “was our defense in 2005″ something he should be proud of? Our defense was terrible in 2005!

I hope you meant “nudging”! A public “nuding” of me would be traumatic for everyone involved!
Get the eye bleach!!!
Well it hasnt gotten much better since 2005 has it? Vilma is and should be our best Defensive player in the next coming years. We should build our D around him not that crappy 3-4 where we get zero pass rush.
