Statements Released On Gate D Incidents

by Bassett on November 21st, 2007 at 11:10 am

Yesterday the Jets released a statement on the Jets halftime Gate D ritual (will it be known as Gategate? Man, I hope not).

Matt Higgins, the Jets senior vice president of business operations, released a statement saying authority officials have told the team they will fix the problem.

“We have spoken with NJSEA officials and demanded that they take steps immediately to ensure that it does not happen again. The NJSEA, the operator of the facility, has assured us that they will address this conduct at all Meadowlands events. We will not allow a small minority of people to ruin the experience for our fans and will be monitoring the situation.”

My reaction: It’s not the Jets responsibility to actually execute on keeping the “security” or “public welfare” of the stadium, that’s the NJSEA’s job. If the the Jets organization thought that this behavior was a problem (and how did they not know about it before now?) it should be their job as tenants to complain to the NJSEA for corrections to be made. The way it looks though to most of America, is that it seemed not to matter until it landed in the New York Times.

The NJSEA reported that to date: 148 Jets fans have been ejected from games this year with 35 arrests compared to 174 Giants fans being ejected with 44 arrests- so to make it like it’s just the Jets fans is biased. This to me is the New York Times just piling on a team having a bad season and a reporter in the wrong place at the right time- this stuff at Gate D has been going on for years!!! It’s not new! I assume at other gates as well.

It’s never a problem until it goes public.

Whether the JETS knew or not is immaterial. The issue is the sports authority knew, and has known for quite a while, and has done nothing about it. I have heard about fans complaining about drunks to “security” (boy, is that an oxymoron) and security doing absolutely nothing about it.
Where is Jon Corzine when you need him??? I am sure there will be a tax increase to solve this problem.

ok listen i am a season ticket holder my dad has had em since the 60s and i have been going since i was 5 and i am now 23. I sit in section 335 right at section D. This tradition has been going on for years not just because they are a bad team. I go to every game with my dad and my SISTER. She knows what goes on there but it’s only common knowledge not to walk near a crowd of drunk men, let a lone a crowd of drunk men yelling “SHOW YOUR TITS” its harmless fun. This guy who wrote this article in the times is just mad that he got arrested for asking questions. Stop ruining the fun….this is NY (technically NJ) its harmless fun if anybody who has their “expert” opinion on this actually have witnessed this in the past they would know that if girls dont wanna show their tits they simply dont and when she gets targeted she simply walks away there is no mob attacking her they just move on to the next girl. It is honestly ridiculous that this is “exposed” now and how all you so called “men” have your panties in a twist and if you actually witnessed what goes on at section D at halftime you would know it is nothing to be offended about just harmless fun.
