Harris Rising, Vilma Staying in Miami

by Bassett on December 8th, 2007 at 10:55 am

The NFL has awarded Jets Linebacker David Harris with Rookie of the Month honors for November, not bad for a guy who was drafted in the middle of the second round. Since stepping in for Jonathan Vilma, Harris now has become the team’s leading tackler … isn’t it interesting how history has a way of repeating itself …

During the month of November, Harris had 41 solo tackles, 8 assists, 2 sacks for 30 yards and one forced fumble.

With Harris’ rise and Vilma who was supposed schedule to rejoin the team this weekend still in Miami, it will be interesting to watch how Vilma and the team treat the situation from here. Newsday’s Tom Rock asked around about Vilma and learned this:

According to those who know [Vilma] best, however, Vilma has no plans to make the trip for the game (he was on the sideline in Miami against the Dolphins, walking with crutches). Mangini was very careful in his language when talking about Vilma’s future with the Jets. Harris’ development has only fostered more speculation that Vilma will not be back with the team next year . . .

Vilma had said on WFAN back in October that he wants to rejoin his teammates when he was offered a gig on NFL Network by Rich Eisen on air for the remainder of the season, we’ll see how his progress goes and when (or if) he makes it back to Hempstead.

Have to give the FO credit here. Revis and Harris are good players. Let’s hope Bender turns out to be a good guard.
