Jets Line Greatest Spread in 15 Years

You are all witnesses to history. The New York Jets is now tied for one of the largest lines in the past 15 years. A dubious distinction indeed.

The undefeated Patriots were made a 27-point favorite over the New York Jets in the opening line for Sunday’s game at Foxborough, Mass. The line dropped to 24 on Monday, which would match San Francisco’s record point spread over Cincinnati on Dec. 5, 1993, according to Keith Glantz, co-author of the Glantz-Culver Line. The 49ers won that game 21-8.

As of now, the line still remains around 24. This could go either way for the Patriots’ next matchup. If the Jets cover, expect the line to drop next week as the house gets burned, even if they are facing the more hapless Dolphins next week. Should the Pats even with giving away around 24 points, the Dolphins’ spread could conceivably move north from here.

  1. All I want for Christmas is a Jets victory over the Patriots in Foxboro.

  2. Snow is imminent. It can be anyone’s game in a strong Nor’easter. Anyone remember the 17-14 victory last season in crummy weather? Jets were a 10pt underdawg in that game. Without a strong passing game the Ravens were able to hang with the Patriots*. Can the Jets’ D-line “buck” up for a big one.? The Chrebookie will be keeping a close eye weather as game time approaches, as 24pts is ALOT for a bad weather game.
All i want for Christmas is a “leg lamp” with Brady’s hairy leg. How much would that cost?

  3. I can’t be sure the latest tally, but I believe the folks over at KSK are offering $30 real US dollars (Canadian would be more appealing right now with the way our economy is) to whoever is willing to go Giloolly on Brady.

  4. How great would it be if the Jets could pull off a win this week. I’m so sick of the lack of respect to the Jets, they are still an NFL football team, and have played a lot of close games this year. While I admit they are not playing well, i dont think they deserve comments like these, from the Power Rankings:

    ESPN:
    Patriots Rank 1:
“Here’s what Bill Belichick should do when he meets Eric Mangini at midfield following the Pats’ 58-3 win Sunday: Hand Mangini a camcorder and say, “I don’t know what I was thinking stealing your crappy team’s signs. But feel free to tape ours.”

    Jets Rank 29:
“Here’s what Eric Mangini should do when he meets Bill Belichick at midfield following the 58-3 loss Sunday: Hand him a copy of the Leave Bill Belichick Alone
YouTube clip and say, “Is this what you were taping ’cause I gotta say, it’s damn funny!”

    USA Today Power rankings:
    Patriots Rank 1:
“Notes: With the Jets on way, has a laugher ever been more anticipated?”

    Jets Rank 29:
“Notes: Keeping the Patriots under Chicago’s single-game record 73 points would be a modest goal.”

At this point, I would be completely happy with the season if they could just beat the Patriots this week. Just to stuff it in the faces of all these bastards. I thought the Jets could get an ounce of respect back when they beat the Steelers, but of course it was all about how bad the steelers played and hot about how well the jets played. I’m sick of it!! GO JETS! Win one for the Gipper!!
