Patriots 16-0: Do the Impossible

by Bassett on December 30th, 2007 at 12:51 am

Hats off to the Patriots, who just completed a perfect regular season. I was rooting for the underdogs and it was a great, great game, it just seemed that the Giants couldn’t keep the momentum in the second half. Of course I am disappointed that the mantle of undefeated teams has now moved from just the Dolphins to the Patriots, both bitter in-division rivals.

  • Best Single Season Record, 16-0 (since 1972 Dolphins).
  • Most Total Offensive Points as a team (beating 1998 Vikings).
  • Most Touchdowns in a season by a receiver with 23 total (beating Jerry Rice in 1987).
  • Most Touchdown Passes in a Season with 50 total (beating Peyton Manning in 2004).

I am happy that the Pats went 16-0! Why? Unless you live in New York you can’t feel the pain of living in the shadow of those damn Giants. If they beat the Pats, I would never, EVER!! Hear the end of it, whereas the Pats are in Massachussetts at least far enough for comfort.

You dont know how annoying it is to hear every year from Giants fans saying the Jets suck, or that I am rooting for the wrong team. By the Giants losing it keeps the teams and their fans ego from consuming all us Jets fans in the metropolitan area.

If we beat the Pats thats a different story! At least we are the only team to force Brady into not throwing a td in a game

This is bad because it sends the message cheaters do win. Beside the fact they spied, they also use HGH. The game last night was poorly officiated and I suspect theat Gooddell will be known as the worst commisioner ever because of how he bows to the Patriot Organization. Celebrate this “achievement” if you will but it will always have an * beside it, and I still consider the Dolphins of 72 to be the record holders as do I still consider Hank Aaron to be the all time home run king. These are bleak examples for sport and life to be on display for our kids. To me the NFL looks more like Nascar everyday and that is indeed sad….WWF in disguise…. Here is to hoping Mangina is fired tonight after the game, there may be hope yet…

James I agree with you that the current atmosphere in professional sports is that there is an “if you can get away with it, it’s OK” attitude. Completely the wrong message for youth and society. My only hope is that with great hubris comes the great fall. The only way to go for the Pats is down. I will say this all next month to my Pats lovin’ bandwagon jumpers, “It don’t mean a thing without that ring.”
P.S. Magini is going no where, sorry.

Question, did everyone see the Wilfork eye poking move on Brandon Jacobs? Kind of removes doubt from my mind about the elbow he leveled on JP Losman earlier in the season …

James–It’s pretty naive to think that the 72 Dolphins weren’t using steroids. Many of the 70′s Steelers have admitted that they used steroids, and players like John Riggins and Lyle Alzado were most certainly juicing. And baseball players like Mickey Mantle were using amphetamines for years to fight the after effects of a long night of drinking. So these arguments for an asterisk are at best naive. Players in pro sports have been cheating for years and we accept it. Anyone ever say that Phil Niekro shouldn’t be in the hall of fame because he doctored the ball with sandpaper and vaseline?

I don’t like the Patriots or Bonds, but it’s not right to denigrate their accomplishments because they are unlikable. For example, nobody talks about how Favre has preserved his streak by abusing pain killers to get through the games and nobody talks about Mark McGwires obvious steroid use. The reason is simply that they are friendlier with the media and better liked by the public.

Hate them but respect them. Harrison & Wilfork are flat out dirty players. Brady is unreal.

  8. avatar klecko71 says:

simply and perfectly summed up by TOON. they are great….much respect. but there are some guys that are not role models to say the least on that team….wilfork, roid-rage-ison, and nice comments by moss last night….”the record really doesnt mean anything (his) what means the most is shutting you guys up” class guy….
and thankfully we always get to say they were great but that they “got caught cheating”. too bad their coaches not-from-this-planet paranoia tarnishes the season a bit.

  9. avatar Bent says:

    Congratulations*.

No-one will ever know how much difference the cheating made and I would have liked to have seen them get there with a shred of dignity, but…nope. After the way they dominated so much to get there, I was actually surprised they struggled so much, needing a few lucky bounces and a couple of favours (sic) from the zebras to get there.

History tells us when there is a dominant team that pressed over the last few weeks of the season, they usually turn it back on and dominate throughout the playoffs, but their three hardest tests of the year are arguably yet to come, so justice (as I see it) may yet prevail.

anyone hear that the pats took off the “21″ sticker for sean taylor?? see pics on web they have “91″ on their helmet…dont know who that is. and so far today with limited hilites i have seen everyone else still has “21″ sticker on their helmet…whats the story there??

Hating T. Brady is like hating your mother. Remember here’s a guy who lives in NY and wears a Yankee hat in the offseason. The guy is flat out good! It’s hard to hate on J. Seau and T. Bruschi. It’s also hard to hate on Boston. The people in and from beantown are awesome.

Hate Goddell. Something was fishy with the Ravens game and spygate.

  12. avatar sjfalcon2001 says:

klecko71: “91″ is for Marquise Hill, a Patriots player who died before training camp in a jet skiing accident.

jetsgrumbler: the players you mentioned (aside from McGwire and Favre) are from a different era when much was not known about the long term effects of those chemicals and an era when those chemicals were not against the rules of the game as they are now. That’s why most want an asterisk. Roger Maris had one for a difference in number of games in the season, certainly Bonds, Sosa, and McGwire should have one for Steroid Era. The Pats, I’m not so sure you could make a clean enough argument for it.

As for the Pats, it’s tough being a Jets fan this year in New Hampshire. I face so much from arrogant Pats fans who think they own the Lombardi trophy. I can only hope that somebody can humiliate them in the playoffs.

They do cheat, (and unfortunately, I suspect most teams do or at least have some players who do) whether the cameras helped or not doesn’t matter. It was against the rules, period. Not to mention that half of Randy Moss’ catches should be flags for offensive pass interference because he pushes off on almost every catch, but the NFL is so afraid of him having a temper tantrum about it, they let him go. And then there’s the obvious HGH use by Harrison and possibly others. And let’s not forget the mysterious “radio issues” in Foxborough. There’s plenty of cheating on the record.
