It appears that the Raiders are stating that Rob Ryan will not be leaving the Raiders, after all.
Mike Taylor said Friday that Ryan would return for a fifth season with the team.
“The recent conjecture regarding the removal of Rob Ryan is incorrect and the constant barrage of rumours is irresponsible,” Taylor said. “The Raiders organization stated that the speculation that Rob Ryan will be relieved of his duties should stop.”
Pretty strong language from the team’s spokesperson. One would think that if they were going to release Ryan, they would have done so by now. Let’s not forget that Oakland’s ownership and management is known for their amazing levels of dysfunctionality, so I’m not totally convinced that this story has completely run it’s course. Even so, don’t hold your breath on Rob Ryan joining the team anytime soon. Being that he’s a DC, it would be almost impossible for another team to hire him away without compensation while he’s already under (would an ‘Asst Head Coach’ title do the trick?) contract.
Even should Rob get fired by the Raiders, it’s hard to imagine that he wouldn’t equally consider a job working for his twin brother Rex, should he land a Head Coaching gig …

Well… if Rex does not get the Baltimore job, we should go after him.
He could improve our chances in landing Suggs. -
I would agree with Nikolas, go after REX!

The Silver & Black might be angling for compensation for Ryan. Why not try?

FANECA sure looked good on that first drive…if we add quality to the O-line and stick with Chad in 2008 we will be competitive. Couple that with getting the “better Ryan”-Rex..we might have something????

hey…anyone have a flashback when they saw the third down QB run by ben with 250 left and 2 timeouts left for the jags??
cmon…think…
i will wait to see if anyone knows what flashback i mean…
and in the meantime…lets take solace in that the jets arent the only franchise that makes MORONIC calls that lose playoff games,at that point, u gotta throw for the first down or at least roll ben right and give him a pass option so maybe the run has a better chance of working. playing loser ball there so u make the jags use timeout number 2????? at that point it didnt matter b/c u punted from ur 25….got a 35-38 yd punt which is normal in those conditions, and handed the ball back to the jags at the 50 after a 10 yd return. AND PROOF of the lack of concern about the timeouts at that pt….del rio chose to challenge a play that looked pretty much a lock to be upheld….on the chance he might get lucky…even though it cost him his last timeout. he was smart…he is at the 50…with 230 left…odds are u will either get in field goal range in plenty of time or just give it up on downs and lose…u wont need the last timeout.
what a brutal play call by pitt there.
i await comparisons to a similar play in jet playoff history….

For once I agree with Nikolas on the Rex Ryan issue.

Jet4lif does that mean that you still believe that Clarke was an adequate replacement for Pete Kendall ?
-
No, of course not. But any amateur(let alone FO) can figure it out that the OL harmony and consistency is worth much more than $1 mil. There gotta be another reason that the FO let Kendall go. Of course we might never know considering how tight the info flows in this regime.
The only way they screwed up is by overestimating the OL and OL backups and at the same time not drafting/FAing another OL in later rounds.(Bender was a project and they knew that).

Bent, did you write Mike Taylor’s release? Or is that just a “rumour?”

I’m holding my breath for now. Consider the fact that Lane Kiffin wants to hire his dad Monte Kiffin as D Cordinator for the Raiders. However, the Bucs have not finished their season since they are in the playoffs. In a couple of weeks, I expect something to happen. If Monte is released, then Ryan might get fired which then leaves him the chance to go to the Jets. Not to mention that Ryan is a 3-4 coach, coaching a 4-3. Since Ryan and davis and Kiffin have butted heads already, I wouldn’t be to sure he will be staying. I am waiting though on Monte being released then we will know what is happening. For now we will just have to sit and wait this out.
