Is Ravens Coaching Staff the Lynchpin?
Hash addict Matt Mosley wrote yesterday on an ESPN.com chat about the Ravens coaching search.
I talked to someone close to the search today. Jason Garrett is getting a lot of buzz, but Jerry Jones may not let him out of Dallas. The guy I talked to described Garrett as having a “quiet confidence” that really impressed the organization. Tony Sparano had an unbelievable interview but they think he’s headed to Miami. I just don’t think they want to hire Ryan. He doesn’t signify any type of a culture change. They want a different voice.
This to us as Jets fans means a few things:
- Brian Schottenheimer isn’t going anywhere. Congratulations to half of you and condolences to the other half.
- Although Rex Ryan has been out on the interview circuit, it’s hard to say if he’s the #1 choice anywhere. My though is that Atlanta is his likely best home. If Rex Ryan doesn’t get a head coaching job, then that means that he might be out of a job and someone the Jets could court. We’ll just have to see.

It is too bad that Little Schott isn’t going anywhere as I was very disappointed in his play calling this year. Too predictable and his red zone play calling was horrendus.
I really think the JETS should pursue Rex.
Editor……this issue I think has been resolved. If you do not have a solid Offensive Line then no Offensive ccordinator, no QB, no RB, no TE, no WR and no Play Calling can save you. If other Clubs interview him for a HC job it means he is much better than what you think he is. Playing football from the stands or the living room as you do know does not give give an accurate picture of the whole game. I wish he stays with the team.
PS: REX has the potential to be something special for us. We may also have a shot at Suggs.
I’d rather have Buddy Ryan than Rex or Rob. The guy stood up to Ditka and won!
Yes, Rex would be huge, I wouldn’t mind which Ryan we get, but I guess I prefer Rex over Rob.
Is Buddy still alive? He was a great DC during his time. He has got to be older than Joe Paterno. So I vote for Rex who has more success than Rob.
B-Shot’s interview with Baltimore was nothing more than a favor Ozzie Newsome did for his old coach’s (Marty) kid. He gave him shot to practive and work the kinks out his interview skills for a HC job in the future. I can’t imagine him having a real shot. Did anyone take it seriously?
I didn’t. The Miami int last year was because they are in our division, nothing more. Schott isn’t ready, but neither was/is Eric.
I have a feeling Wade Philips will be available for consideration as DC :)
