Washington Is Broken, Jim Fassel to Clean it up

fassel_jim1217.jpg“Washington is fundamentally broken … incapable of dealing with the challenges we have. We face extraordinary challenges, that we’ve listened to the coaches talk about for decades .. DECADES without getting anything done.”

Jim “Mitt” Fassel

If you’ve spent much time listening to the echo chamber on CNN Presidential Primary process, you’ve probably heard the rhetoric from the mouths of contenders that “Washington is broken.”

Truer words have never been written, especially today … it seems that both the Redskins and Ravens are pratfalling their way through their hiring process, and frustrating fans like us who are waiting for the dust to settle to see who’s left to hire for our team … thus spake the Washington Post:

League and team sources said yesterday afternoon that they expected Fassel would get the job, but as of late last night Redskins officials were still meeting to mull over their options, with no decision expected before today, a league source said. Members of the staff who have spoken to Williams recently said he doubts he would get the job, because he has not heard from team officials since his last interview last week.

… in the event Williams is passed over and leaves, the Redskins have discussed hiring another Fassel favorite, Rex Ryan, as defensive coordinator, sources said. But Ryan, the defensive coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens the past three seasons, might not be free even if he wanted the job. The Ravens changed head coaches and gave their assistants permission to interview with other teams, but the team contends it has the contractual right to keep Ryan from taking another defensive coordinator’s job.

So to recap ….

The Skins want Fassel
Fassel wants Rex Ryan
The Baltimore Ravens allowed staff to job hunt
But now they are going back on their word

Meanwhile, we twiddle our thumbs and somehow hope that the Jets will get the chance to actually interview Rex Ryan or Gregg Williams.
As Chris Mottram writes on Mr. Irrelevant, “would ripping Snyder’s limbs off and posting them at the four corners of the area formerly known as Raljon, MD be a bit extreme?

  2. What is going on with the Rob Ryan situation.

  3. Nelson 17–I just read that Rob Ryan will be staying with Oakland. Supposedly, Lane Kiffin finally adddressed it, and said that Ryan was staying put. So, if true, yet another missed opportunity.

  4. and rex is staying in baltimore…
