Nicaraguans Rejoice! Your 19-0 Patriots Shirts Have Arrived!!

by Bassett on February 15th, 2008 at 4:53 pm

creepyclownkilla.jpgIt appears that there are some real winners when it comes to the SuperBowl loss for the Patriots … well other than those of us who gleefully participate in wreckless schadenfreude in the defeat of the team that could have gone undefeated and didn’t.

It seems that thanks to the NFL and WorldVision (please donate to this good cause) the children of Nicaragua and Romania are the real winners of the SuperBowl, as the recipients of the gear meant for players and fans alike. It’s almost as if it was a PAT RIOT down there …

See the rest of the adorabale kids (and one elderly lady) in the shirts after the jump.

I am glad someone is getting use of that, I wouldn’t mind owning one myself.

  2. Yeah, I’m always surprised that people don’t sell them. Like Bill Simmons has written, these shirts make great gifts for that annoying Patriot fan in your life.

It sorts of reminds me of 1997, when I replaced this annoying coworker/Sox fan’s screensaver with a “1996 Yankee World Series Champion” one. Back then most people couldn’t figure out how to change their screensavers, so it worked brilliantly for like three or four months….

Does anyone know where I can get a shirt like that?

Worldvision is a great organization. I’m a Youth Pastor and our teens donate to Worldvision every year and our fundraiser is in 2 weeks. They not only provide clothes, but they also provide food (and means to grow it themselves) and clean drinking water supplies in areas where those items are scarce around the world. I’m glad to see the shirts and hats weren’t wasted. Even though I wish I could walk through church one morning wearing one!!

Because of Don Shula, the Jets’ 1982 AFC Champions shirts are in Nicaragua

  7. Seriously, I’m sure there is a decent market for these shirts. They should be hoarding them and then finding an American buyer. I bet they could get at least $10 a piece for them, because these shirts could fetch $15 to $20 easy in the U.S. Think about it, an official NFL licensed t-shirt that mocks the Patriots season. I know about a million people who would want one of those.

I remember getting a UNLV “Back-to-Back” National Championships sweatshirt in Vegas, the night before they lost to Duke in the Final Four when they were supposed to be unbeatable. I was only in 7th grade and it was pretty cool since I lived in KC. Now my dad wears it when he’s working on his car.

There must be a 3rd world country who thinks the Buffalo Bills are the greatest dynasty in American sports.

They do this every year. Wake up.

Similar to Football Francis’ comment… If the NFL were to auction the shirts off and then use the money for charity, they would have been able to donate a lot more than these shirts to the WorldVision cause. It reminds me of the M*A*S*H episode where someone donated chocolate bars to the locals, but they inturn then traded the bars for rice which was more valuable. I like the gesture, but it’s a little too much PR and not enough substance to me.

Great post…As a Steelers blogger, I posted a similar reaction to the shirts a few days ago. It’s nice to see some good come of those shirts…I imagine there were a lot of Pseudo Steelers fans in 1996 in a third world country. http://www.5goldenrings.net

Actually, the NFL has and exclusive deal with World Vision and has made it illegal to sell these items in North America. Anybody who is caught trying to sell them (on ebay or otherwise) is subject to a hefty fine. I already looked into it.

  14. avatar Justin says:

Why doesn’t the NFL just sell all these shirts on E-bay and donate the money to World Vision (or to the local people themselves) so it can be spent on things they might actually need like medicines, education subsidies, better transportation etc (perhaps we could ASK them?) – rather than a cute NFL photo-op with kids in t-shirts so big they provide hardly any practical use?

18-1 Irrelevant unlike any other… Say goodnight Hoodie! Bob Kraft… Your still a putz!

  16. avatar JackM says:

Someone in Nicaragua needs to get on ebay!

  17. avatar Aaron says:

I would buy one of these in a heartbeat and send it to Bob Kraft as a thanks for raising the ticket prices again.
