UPDATE 2/21: Looks like Williams, Trufant and Asomugha have all been tagged now too.
With each passing day, Free Agency is becoming les and less of an option for saving this team. Too many teams with way too much cap space will drive contracts to unreasonable levels, and the teams doing the signing will be in salary cap hell 2-3 years down the line. And you know that other players on the team will be paying attention, and be looking for similar deals when their time comes. Signing unreasonable contracts leads to way too many headaches down the road.
It’s looking more and more like the draft may be our only salvation, unless summer-time cuts turn up anything.
What about D.J. Hackett?

Neil O’Donnell, Curtis Conway, Sam Cowart, David Barrett, Eric Barton, Derrick Blaylock, KVO, Anthony Clement, Andre Dyson, Tim Dwight, Brad Kassell, Darian Barnes, David Bowens, Kenyon Coleman… need I go on? Maybe it’s best we stay out of the FA market altogether
DJ Hackett is a terrific player and well worth a look. As for the notion that free agency is supposed to be some sort of salvation, I have no idea where that kind of thinking comes from.
