The new version of the Mock Draft Muncher is out, complete with links of players to Rookiepedia! It seems that Chris Long is securing his top slot over Dorsey. I’m sure that players will start some significant flip-flopping once a lot more of these folks update their Mocks …
UPDATE: Ali Highsmith is neither a WR from Michigan, nor a top pick in any of these drafts … Thanks to Joe P.

Gholsten next to Harris would be intriguing

I gotta agree with j on this one,, Ellis reminds me of another D-Rob, who we are currently shopping for 75 cents on the dollar because he is not a good fit for this scheme. I’ve read conflicting reports on him, some say he can play a 3-4, others say he can’t, and at #6 overall I don’t think I want to take that chance. His size worries more than where he went to school though, seems kind of small to be very effective to me, besides the stud 3-4 tackles generally aren’t high first rounders. This will all become a moot point anyway if proposed trades for Kris Jenkins or Shaun Rodgers materialize.
Gholston looks like a much better fit for this team, and the only concern with him is whether his great workout numbers will translate on the field, and there is plenty of film from his Ohio St. days to make that assessment.

What do you think?

Chris Long would be my choice, but the cost to get the Tuna to bite might be to high. Anyone know what it would cost us to go from 6 to 1 via the famous trade chart?
-
Nelson, thorough job as always. A couple of comments:
- I’m not sold on Tony Hills for us – seems like more of a finesse player than I’d like for RT – but I’m willing to take a shot on him in round 3.
- Manningham will drop, but not to 98. He was a first-rounder on most mocks before the combine; I figure he’s a second-rounder now.
- Cincy, HOU, and PHI would be jumping for joy if your board came true. -
ED, forget it! According to the famous chart the 1st pick is worth 3000 pts, the 6th is worth 1600 pts, which means we would have to make up 1400 pts, our 2nd round pick #36 is worth 540, 3rd #67, 255, 4th #98, 108, add all that up you are only to 903, almost 500 pts short of making this deal, and 5-7 won’t come close to matching that even IF you still foolishly wanted to consider trading your entire draft to a division rival when you clearly need more that one player to make this team viable again. It would most likely involve trading of future draft picks to accomplish, but this will never happen, if the Jets trade anywhere it will be down, not up.

Gholston isn’t going to be able to cover anyone he is a stronger & slightly faster version of Bryan Thomas. Groves is the fast sack machine we need but just not at 6.
-
If the Jets draft Gholston, and trade Vilma, there’s still a hole next to Harris at RILB. How about Kawika Mitchell? He’s 6-1, 253 lbs. and, IMO, probably the Giants best, and certainly their most explosive, LB last season. Also, I’ve read some good things about Oklahoma’s Curtis Lofton, who also has good size-6-1, 240 lbs.

I have real trouble seeing the board fall that way. After giving it some more thought, I don’t think Matt Ryan is going to go in the top five. That’s not my interjecting my feelings on Ryan’s future prospects, but looking at the combination of recent drafting trends and the particular layout of this year’s quarterback class. Brady Quinn’s drop is instructive- even a team that liked him a lot, as Cleveland clearly did, wasn’t willing to pass over players with a higher grade in order to take him. I don’t think that Ryan is going to be one of the top three prospects on many boards, and the only places for him to go is one or three. Throw in the recent trend of trying to address the quarterback spot in the second round coupled with the fact that the next group of quarterbacks, guys like Brohm and Henne, figure to be available at or near the top of the second, and I think it pushes Ryan down a bit, probably to Baltimore at eight. I also think Gholston is going to go in the top five, possibly in the top two (which is fine with me, as I’d rather avoid him). The Jets are looking at a situation where they may end up with the value being Dorsey, who doesn’t fit at all, or Ellis, who is a good player but likely doesn’t do much to change the dynamic of the defense. As leery as I am of McFadden, the Jets are probably in the best position if he drops. And should McFadden and Ryan both drop-very possible if the Chiefs decide to take a tackle and Long isn’t there-then the odds are good that the Jets will get some action. Some teams will be interested in McFadden, while other teams might want to jump over Baltimore for a shot at Ryan.

the c.long and v.gholston dynamic reminds me a little of peyton and ryan leaf. i hope we dont’ end up with the DE/OLB version of leaf. in fairness to gholston, though, despite his great combine numbers he’s not the typical workout warrior. i believe he was first team big ten and second team all-american–although i didn’t watch him play, i would guess that those honors mean he can play a little.
seanmac: i agree and would love to see a trade down that let them get quentin groves and a good RT/OG.
-
@seanmac – I think that the Falcons are going to take Ryan. McFadden would be perfect for them, IMO, but I think teams are going to be very sensitive about off-field issues–he picked the wrong time to get in a fight outside a nightclub.
-
I don’t think the Falcons are going to take either one. I think they’ll take either Dorsey or Ellis, with Dorsey being their preference.
-
If we take Ellis I will renounce my prior article
-
I’m hoping for a trade with the Cowboys where we net their two 1′s and then take an OT like Cherilius or Albert and a DE like Groves. Though I’m also warming to Merling at 6 or slightly thereafter, sounds like he could be a fit in the 3-4.

Not interested in another 310lb DT, alot of the USC 1st rounders do not seem to translate into the same player in the NFL that they were at USC.
