Actually, it was reported that Faneca is viewed as quite accessible by the media, but it was a bit of a surprise when he spoke out against the Steelers last year.

I guess a Steelers fan would have more of an idea than me, but like you say they may also have an axe (sic) to grind.

On FootballOutsiders, there is a lot of negative talk about Faneca. Someone wrote that he is always complaining to the media about something (like Kendall?), even though that could be a bitter Steeler fan saying that. Another poster attributed his complaints to the way the Steelers dismissed Russ Grimms as a coaching candidate. Most of the posters believe that it was too much money for a declining guard. I don't have the numbers, but it seems pretty feasible for a guard to still play effectively when they are 35, which is when Faneca's four-year deal would end.

Steelers did have a rough year blocking last year, and I wonder what Faneca's role was in that situation. I hope he is still on his game and isn't looking to simply cash in.

Faneca deal still isn't done, but agreed in principle, apparently.

Had to pass this along from ESPN's Mike Sando, who was the guy who said that Jenkins would be happier now he was working for a coach who would allow him the freedom to express himself:

"Left to right, the Jets can line up with Ferguson, Faneca, Mangold, Brandon Moore and Anthony Clement. All five of those guys have started 16 games in each of the last two seasons. Faneca, Ferguson and Mangold entered the NFL as first-round draft choices. Clement was a second-rounder. Those four were drafted among the top 36 overall choices. The Jets are talented up front."

Yep, he just used Anthony Clement and talented in the same paragraph. Surely it is inevitable that he will be replaced soon.

Vilma was acquired from the Saints for a 2008 draft pick, and a conditional 2009 pick as well. The initial report was wrong, and this deal makes much more sense....thank god.

I really hope the Fanaca deal happens because he will immediately provide a strong anchor and the best means by which to evaluate the offense next year. Fanaca will provide running room on the left side, and will greatly help D'Brick's and Mangold's development. Most importantly, he will provide the entire offense with that extra second it needs to execute plays. With Fanaca in place, the Jets can accurately evaluate KC, Schott, etc.

Even for those who are concerned about the age or money, the bottom line is that it is the most important position the Jets need to fill and he is the best FA available for that position.

Wow, I really hope we get him. Much like the Santana signing for the Mets adding a big name to a an OLine that was so terrible should do a lot for the mentality of the line. I think that when we look at this trade we need to look at all that faneca brings, a pro bowler, a mega contract, he is going to be a great leader and will carry with him a swagger that these young kids lack. This could be huge for the development of our boys. Also, I am glad that Tony Wise is gone, he was terrible. I am expecting big things from Callahan and really want to see progression from Mangold and Brick.

since we have jones the talk of d.mac shouldn't even come to mind...it would be a waisted pick on a position we dont need to worry about...jones will be fine...

now that we have a LT and a NT we need 2 OLBs( maybe c.pace signs and draft gholston),RT( whoever drops to us),WR (for the fact we dont know whats gonna happen with coles) and another DE...( kendall langford or marcus dixon...we always need D-LINEMEN)...just my thoughts...

I don't want McFadden at all. TJ had a great year last year, especially considering the porous line, and he's one of the few who never let up during a crappy season. He doesn't have that much mileage despite being 31, so he probably still has a good two years in him. I know that it's sexy and exciting to draft a skill player with a high pick, but there are much more pressing needs to be addressed at #6. I say take Gholston, one of the Longs, maybe McKelvin or trade the pick.
