Terms of the Alan Faneca deal which apparently are too good to refuse have been made known, and at present it sounds like a four year deal with $20 million in guaranteed money and a total value of $32 million.
With an exploding cap, my biggest concern with getting Faneca was overpaying an aging player and it seems to me that in a frenzied market that is very thin at Guard — through free agency and draft class — the Jets have spent wisely. From what many analysts are saying, he deserves every penny and at an average $8 million per year with $20 million guaranteed, Faneca gets what he wants (the guaranteed money) the Jets get what they want (a shorter term contract) and still have plenty of money to pursue other players. Flozell Adams’ deal is to be six year, for reference.
Grabbing a starting Guard was my #1 priority for the Jets in free agency, and if this deal goes through, I think the Jets have done very well for themselves.
What do you think?

AT AROUND 3:30 THIS MORNING THE JETS GOT KRIS JENKINS FROM CAROLINA FOR A THIRD AND A FIFTH ROUNG DRAFT PICK. WE SHOULD HAVE ONLY GAVE THEM A THIRD ROUND PICK BUT THAT IS ME. GO JETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This is sorta off subject but i was just informed that we traded for K Jenkins, for a 3rd and a 5th can anyone confirm this

sounds like this is a 4 yr deal that, counting the signing bonus, essentially amounts to 2 yrs guaranteed. that is great, since the last two years won’t be guaranteed and he can be cut if he gets old quickly.
i am pretty excited about all these moves. it’s enough to turn a typical jets pessimist into an optimist.

If we traded a 3rd and 5th round pick for Jenkins, effectively we traded Vilma for Jenkins and a 5th round pick.

I’m excited about these moves, but I wonder where this puts the Jets in ’09. Jenkins deal supposedly runs out in a year or two so is this a rental? Faneca is aging. So both guys will need potential replacements on the roster in a couple of years. Same goes for Damien Woody if the Jets are really going to sign him. I’d feel much better if the Jets had received a pick for Vilma this year, but if it could potentially be a high pick next year based on player performance I can’t complain.
With the Vilma trade, what is this conditional pick? Even if it doesn’t work out will the Jets receive some compensation? I’d feel a lot more comfortable if I knew that it could become a 2nd or at the worst a 3rd rounder in ’09.

is the Fancea deal “etched in stone official?”

What do I think? Wasn’t this reported a few days ago? Wasn’t this the same report you spent an entire web page denouncing as “baseless” speculation, and ranting and raving about how reporters think they are better than bloggers, etc., etc.? Now that it appears to be right on – and many NFL experts say this is right in line with what an OL like Faneca should have expected to get in FA – what do YOU think? Gentlemen, I find crow tastes best with a little salt and oregano.

I like this deal a lot. We need him to help Brick and Mangold (not to mention T.Jones). Now we need to go get Samual, although I think it may be too late since he is supposedly heading to Philly. I hope that his relationship with Mangini can at least get us a visit with him before he signs. I don’t mind getting Gay, but he is no where near the player Samual is. Any ideas where we are going with D-Rob now? (assuming we make the Jenkins deal)
