Kris Jenkins Scouting Profile
So who is this guy the Jets just got named Kris Jenkins? Here’s a quick compiled scouting report on former Carolina DT Kris Jenkins, after the jump:
Physical Attributes: Huge but athletic, known for his quickness ability to use his body and create postive leverage, he’s a tough player with a “mean streak.”
Attitude: Excellent motor considering the amount of plays he consistently sees doubles.
Skills: Quick off the snap and uses his size to penetrates gaps extremely well. Able to control the line of scrimmage and not only commands but can beat double teams. Can keep pad level even and is best at redirecting the line to make plays against the run. Able to rush the passer from tackle by quickly getting to an interior lineman’s outside and has “violent, effective moves” get into the backfield. Able to collapse pocket interior against smaller interior linemen.
Questions / Off The Field: Doesn’t work hard enough to stay in proper shape in and out of season. Has missed significant time in recent years and has become an injury risk. His stamina could become an issue if he doesn’t get into a proper workout/nutrition regimen. Was called for undisciplined roughing the passer (check 4:30 mark) call in 2007. Youtubage of him taunting fans in Philly (language …NSFW). Might not mesh well with intrusive NY media …

If the Jets keep up the good work, you may have to change the banner on top of your page.
If we are lucky that is. Fat Jenkins and Ugly Faneca work for me.
Does anyone here care how well he “meshes” with the NY media? I hope he gives Cimini a wedgie and stuffs him in a locker, since he will likely be the first to write the inevitable negative article on his lack of production based on tackles and sacks, even though as a NT in the 3-4 thats not his job. Same crap that happened last year with Kenyon Coleman, looking at his sack numbers even though sacks don’t really come from the ends in a 3-4, more from OLB, but why let the truth get in the way of a good story.
I don’t necessarily care how well he meshes with the media, and the Jets see to limiting access as best they can, but some players just don’t seem to work out in having to deal with the media spotlight and constant attention that is NYC sports … it’s a risk worth mentioning.

Kris Jenkins: Pro Bowl bound for Jets?

Going to make a prediction right now: Defensive tackle Kris Jenkins will make the Pro Bowl for the Jets next season.
Jenkins, who’s being traded from Carolina to the Jets, is going to thrive in New York. When I was working at The Charlotte Observer last summer, Jenkins created a bit of a stir when he revealed to me that he didn’t really like living in Charlotte. He talked about how he preferred bigger cities with more to do.
Well, cities don’t come bigger than New York, and that’s going to make Jenkins happy off the field. But he’s also going to be happy on the field in the middle of New York’s 3-4 defense. That’s the kind of challenge Jenkins needs to get back to the form that got him to three Pro Bowls.
Jenkins is the kind of guy who gets bored easily and he got bored and disgruntled in Carolina, where he had stopped believing in the coaching staff several years ago. Panthers coach John Fox likes his players to be robots, and the outspoken Jenkins wasn’t the type to spew the company line.
Jenkins still played well last year after the Panthers failed in a previous attempt to trade him. But he’ll play even better in New York because he’ll have the freedom to be himself on and off the field.

Kris Jenkins
Ok, it is worth mentioning, but I am not concerned, it didn’t seem to affect the Giants this year, Anotonio Peirce and Strahan harassing female reporters, blowing air horns, bottom line is what you do on the field.
Hey Liam and diehard … you need to call jinx!! Will update the piece with the link to the article … :D
Um, has Pat Yasinkas MET Eric Mangini?
“Panthers coach John Fox likes his players to be robots, and the outspoken Jenkins wasn’t the type to spew the company line.”
“But he’ll play even better in New York because he’ll have the freedom to be himself on and off the field.”
Pop quiz to all posters, which of these quotes resembles our beloved Coach?
NFL Network’s Adam Schefter reports that the Jets signed DT Kris Jenkins to a five-year, $35 million contract, with $20 million guaranteed.
That answers my earlier quesion. Basically a three year extension with (I would assume) most of the money over the next two years which would have been payable anyway now guaranteed?
They must have some confident doctors.
i think jenkins can and will be himself….he wont need to be outspoken because he will buy into the system and the team….jenkins is not a moron and i am sure he can see that mangini is a clone of belichek….and u can see no matter how bad it got last season the jets never gave up on mangini….cuz they respect him
I love the idea of Jenkins being a pro-bowler; but is the author serious? Does he know anything about the Mangini regime and toeing the company line?
Love the pickup. Apparently he’s got a 5-year dela in place worth about 35 mil with 20 mil guaranteed. Might be a little much ut we definitley need that Ted Washington-type run stuffer in the middle demanding 2 blockers on every play. Please sign Faneca now!!!!!!
His brother at GreenBay may be the Jenkins that we should get, but at least we have some girth in the middle!
FYI, looks like the Vilma trade is official, according to ESPN:

Let’s hope Jenkins likes playing the nose in a 3-4. The position, not to mention the scheme, is not for everyone. I’m sure the Jets have been speaking with Jenkins throughout this process — and the extra dough helps — but the reality of it all might turn Jenkins sour.
That extra pick for Jenkins might be a calculated throwaway by the FO. Remember, the Jets are staring at a monster contract if they stay in the draft’s sixth slot, not to mention other FA signings and a possible Rhodes extension.
I know a fifth-rounder doesn’t take up much cap room in the grand scheme of things, but every little bit counts. That saved salary could be the difference in getting a draft pick in camp on time, landing a needed FA or keeping what is now the team’s best player around for while.
Somehow, I don’t think Jenkins will handle the new york media like Eli Manning….and it doesn’t matter. Just stop the damn run up the middle. Wouldn’t care if he had “0″ sacks if we stopped the run. Maybe this will free up the other front 6 to get sacks. I wonder how many more sacks we’d have had in ‘07′, if we had prevented people from running, and forced them to 3rd and longs? (Long’s…I love the sound of them…Jake…Chris)
3-4 is not such a sack producing / or mega sacker producing defense. We don’t need another Gastineau or Strahan if we get “W” ’s…Sacks seem to be spread around more, with the flexibility and different looks the 3-4 defense can provide. Woolfork have many sacks? nope.
For $35MM, $20MM Gauranteed; I’m thinking Jenkins & Faneca will be model players committed to the company line.
He’ll work out. He’ll play, and he’ll say what he’s suppossed to say.
