Shore up the top two needs the Jets have: CHECK!!!
-
Obviously Faneca was a great need for us…but damn is that expensive for a guard. Hopeuflly he makes it 12 career pro bowls when his contract is up
-
That’s a lot of money for a guy who got pushed around a bit last year. Then again, he wasn’t playing hard because I’m sure he was pissed that the Steelers didn’t want to pay his price. Couple more moves, some good draft picks, and things are looking a little better.
-
Great move. Now we can have a play that last longer than a few seconds. Let’s go get Woody or Olivea. Then, try to swing a late deal for Pace or Lito Sheppard. We still need a cornerback
-
I don’t want Calvin Pace, he’s a guy who had 1 good year. And I think Lito Shepphard is overrated. I want Vernon Gholston in the draft. But your right, we do need to go after a RT big time. I’d like to go after Olivea just because of age.
-
yay!
-
As it relates to money, Tannembaum knows what he is doing with our cap so I am sure he has a plan.
-
The thing with Pace……..If Parcells is hot after him, then there has to be something good about this guy.
Sheppard – I’ll give you that, he does get hurt a lot. But he does have good cover skills because Philly likes to get pressure by blitzing. He has to play man-to-man a bunch of times.

Awesome news! Now I can cut down on the cigarettes and the nail biting again :-)

Great news. Brick-Faneca-Mangold could be sensational for the next 3-4 years. This should give us a much better chance to really evaluate Clemens and see if he’s the real deal. If he is, we’re about to become very dangerous. If he’s not, we know by this time next year and draft/trade accordingly.
Has anybody seen how the contract breaks down year-by-year? I’m curious b/c the original talk was 4/32M with (I believe) 17 guaranteed. I’m wondering if the finalized deal will in reality turn out to be a 4-year deal in the mid-30M range. If so, that seems pretty reasonable, given how much we needed a LG and our cap room.
Dude, we just upgraded from Turnstile Clarke to Alan Faneca. Sweet.

Parcells likes Pace because he doesn’t already have Bryan Thomas on his team. We do…
Can’t wait to find out if D’Brick is for real – we’ll know once he plays next to Faneca… -
this was news to me…apparently we’re not the only one in the division trading for a stud DT. Looks like Faneca will be blocking Mr. Stroud
-
I think we can settle our RT in the draft with Gosder Cherilus–he’s gonna be a franchise RT, the next Jordan Gross.
-
SNY is saying Faneca still hasnt signed
-
Just a great move. Do we make this move if we keep Kendall lst season? NO. We have invested the future success of this club with Brick, Nick, and to some extent Clemens. Why not throw the best Guard in football in the mix?
FWIIW, good friend of mine is huge Steeler fan. He is crushed they chose not to keep him – says he best run blocker in the league, and his pass blocking issues were all related to having to cover for porous play next to him.
And how about the high energy omments coming from Jenkins?
Opening Day cannot get here soon enough

Oh the possibilitys. Just think The JEts could get McFadden and a RT in round 2. I could play QB then, okay I really couldnt but you get the idea. Or we could get Ghoulston. Finaly a true run stuffer in JEnkins and pass rusher in Ghoulston. I also think we should keep D Rob as a DE. Id like to see a CB in FA. We dont need a shutdown CB, just an okay one. A tall WR would be nice as well Hell the way the draft works Ghoulston and Mcfadden coul dbe gone and that LT Long could fall to us. Imagine that line!!!
-
If Clemens pulls a jay Cutler like season from last year then I will be a happy camper.
Now the main concerns are at RT, OLB, and WR
remember Coles is still ticked off. And with all this guaranteed money flying around by the FO. He is very aggravated.
-
with these top 2 needs filled, I’d probably target Gholston and Nicks in the first two rounds of the draft. Trade down if McFadden drops to 6.
-
I agree, if McFadden drops to 6 we trade with Dallas. One superstar won’t help this team. We’ll have a great running game adding Faneca to the o-line since Jones is no slump. What we need is a playmaker at wideout, cotch and coles are great, but they’re both #2 guys and cant stretch the field. I’d like ot target that tall wideout out of Indiana. Making a deal with dallas puts us in the likely draft position of the wideout value.
-
I’m lukewarm about the strategy, but there’s no question that Faneca addresses the biggest point of weakness on the team. The Jets are one of the two finalists for Pace, it sounds like they’re interested in Olivea, and they have mentioned interest in both Lito Sheppard and Randy Moss. I’m glad to see they’re staying sharp, as there is a lot of talent shifting the AFC East’s way, both in Miami and now in Buffalo.
With Jacksonville signing Porter and trading for Williamson, I’d give them a ring and see if a late second day pick could bring back Matt Jones. I’d like to see the Jets add a vertical threat, and Jones is still an intriguing talent.
-
I’d much prefer Pace to Gholston; I’d much prefer anyone to Gholston, honestly. Nicks in round two is a different kettle of fish, however. And unless Dallas plans on throwing Marion Barber or Marcus Spears or Chris Canty into the mix, I don’t think I would trade down. If they like McFadden and he’s there, I’d sit tight and take him. There are only so many instances when you get to take the best player in the draft, and if you can do so and pay him #6 money, all the better.
-
I think WR becomes the biggest need now. I understand we still need a CB, an OLB and a RT (a RG wouldn’t hurt either, I’m NOT a Moore fan), but an improved line won’t do much for Kells if he doesn’t have anybody to throw to. Cotch is awesome, but he’s not a true #1, who knows if Coles will be around come September, and behind that, we’ve got NOTHING. We need a big, fast #1 WR like oxygen. Isn’t Javon Walker on the block, as well as Roy Williams? I’d rather pick up a proven WR through FA or a trade than cross our fingers with Mario Manningham in the second round.

This is Great!!!
Now, if only Basset had a another picture that didn’t have Harris Grabb’n Balls as the banner!!! -
I have some mixed feelings about the signing, too. 21 mil guaranteed to an over thirty guard seems like a bit of a gamble. But I guess the FO must have liked the intangibles of his game attitude and experience to mix with the youth on the team and how he could help provide an opportunity to see where they are at QB enough to roll the dice. There’s no question he makes the team immediately better in a key area.
-
This has to be considered a good move. We’ve all been bitching for months (years?) about how we need to shore up both sides of the line. Tangini have been proactive in doing just that – how could anyone fault them? The market bears what it will – certain players demand certain amounts of money depending on alot of intangibles: how much $ did similar players command, how many other FAs are available at the position, do they play a position where there are clearly not enough of them to go around to all 32 teams, etc. They had the $ and spent it to fill needs. I say good job and keep going.

The money for Faneca is what it is. The bottom line, the Jets got a top LG to replace probably the worst starting offensive lineman in the NFL. That he’s also a team leader is the cherry on the sundae. Just think about how this changes the OL, even if no other move is made. However, if the Jets get Woody or Olivea, then the OL goes from a weakness to a strength. Since I still have my issues with Clemens, what’s wrong with adding McFadden? He’s 6-2 and runs a 4.30 40…that’s elite speed. Like I’ve said before, split him out as a WR, and he’s then the Jets tallest and fastest WR. That’s the type of weapon the Jets need…a real threat out of the backfield or in the passing game. Of course, I’m still hoping for Matty Ice to be available, but I know that’s a long shot. Getting a speedy WR becomes less of a priority if the Jets get McFadden, but the draft has plenty of speedy WRs and there’s always trades.
I also like the Jenkins signing. I watched some more highlights of his and I’m convinced that he has the proper technique to be an elite NT. First, he has a high motor. Second, he’s a huge man. Third, he’s more of a bull-rusher than an edge rusher. A bull rusher moves the OL back and tosses him aside. Contrast that to D-Rob who was more of an edge technique guy, who often used a swim move. He never controlled an OL, he went around him (and often took himself out of plays). Also, Jenkins could play DE in some packages. When they need extra beef, Pouha could play NT and Jenkins LDE.
The Jets still need 3 LBs to match with Harris, and one needs to be a pure pass rusher, but it is hard to argue with these moves. Last point, where are all those guys who have said Woody is cheap and Tangini wouldn’t be able to sign UFAs because of Kendall and the tough camps. Well, Woody’s money talked and the BS walked.

Could NOT be happier!!!!!
