Cross Gay Off The List

The free agent frenzy continues across the NFL as Adam Schefter of NFL.com and ESPN.com are both reporting that free agent cornerback Randall Gay has reached a 4-year $17.8 million contract with the New Orleans Saints. The guaranteed money is somewhere between $6.7 and $6.9 million, with playing time incentives and bonuses.
Reportedly, the Jets had interest in the former Patriot, who would’ve made a nice addition to the defensive backfield. The best thing to be said is that it further hurts the Patriots, who lost their other starting corner Asante Samuel to Philadelphia on Friday.
Thanks to Claus for the heads up and Nelson17 for the link.

Gaffney is another on the fence. Watch the Vikes for that one.

It’s great taht these players are leaving the Pats, but look at their track record for letting guys go. Has any free agent that they didnt bring back, or guys that the traded away ever made a real impact on their new team? Bottom line is these are all system guys and they’re expendable. The onyl one that you can say had a decent career after leaving was Ty Law in his first year with the jets and ended up leading the league in interceptioins…but we happened to go 4-12 that year…look at the other guys in recent years they’ve let go who ahve done next ot nothing since leaving…
Willie McGinest
Joe Andruzzi
David Givens
David Patten
Ty Law
Lawyer Milloy
Deion BranchBottom line, when the Pats don’t bring someone back, there’s ususally a reason why. So the fact that they’re losing guys seemse great, but honestly, is it really going to matter that much?

True the Pats can lose talent and recover, but they were record setting last year. If they lose Moss and a couple others then they are closer to mortal. They will be getting worse, while we hopefully will be getting better. Lets meet in the middle and see what happens. Screw New England.

That’s too bad, I was ready to order 20 Gay unis and hand them out as gifts to my friends!

I just read on rotoworld that the jets have contact Pro Bowl (but 36 yr old) FB Richardson….Any one else here about this???and what you think??
-
In this case the reason why is because they don’t have the cap room to retain the players. It doesn’t matter if they are system players or not (and Samuel is no system player, and neither is Randy Moss); what matters is that the Patriots have to have the bodies to replace them. At the moment, they don’t.

Danny… I mentioned this a couple days ago, I would love for the Jets to get Richardson, all he does is lead block for great rushing offenses.

im so happy that the patriots keep losing people and havent done anything yet. Its beautiful.

The reason why it matters more now that the Pats are losing players than before is because they are getting older. Before you could have said well they let those guys go but heck they got that 30yr old Bruschi or 29yr old Vrabel. Most of their starters are aging and its really catching up. They have at least 4yrs of immortality left before they fall apart. Lucky for us we are rising like dough

Matt, I agree the Pats have a knack for releasing players who they feel are expendable…but losing a guy like Asante Samuel? He’s an all-pro corner, and they will absolutely miss him next year. Randall Gay, Stallworth, Gaffney…not of the same caliber obviously, but you can’t deny that they made some significant contributions to the Pats last year, even if only in a few instances you know? I’m not saying the Pats are going to fall off the map next year after losing these guys obviously, but I honestly do believe this situation can and will benefit the other teams in our division. It can only help…

What does everyone think about DJ Hacket? Or how about Eric Green of Arizona? Here is his stats: 51 Tackles not too bad. even Bryant Johnson to replace McCareins. Eric Green could be a good 3rd corner if Hank Poteat goes…

A good number of mock drafts had McFadden in the top 5 had them going to the Falcons need to change their predictions tomorrow….Michael Turner signed with Atlanta and now their backfield is overflowing with Norwood, Turner and Dunn!!! McFadden, baggage and all should be there for Tangini to consider picking and trading, unless the raiders take him and want to garnish his salary and cut the checks to all his kids mothers every week.

FANECA REPORTEDLY SIGNS WITH JETS
The Jets have reportedly signed Alan Faneca, who has made seven consecutive Pro Bowls, as a free agent. Since the first AFC-NFC Pro Bowl after the 1970 season, six other players have switched teams after making as many as seven straight Pro Bowls: Junior Seau, Randall McDaniel, Ruben Brown, Jay Hilgenberg, Warren Sapp and Reggie White. Of that group, only McDaniel and White went back to the Pro Bowl with their new team.

They all cashed out! While the Steelers will be going nowhere next year, you can count on the Jets getting Faneca back to the Pro Bowl. It’s Jenkins that I’d like to see going with him. That would mean alot!

Not a big deal, honestly. The important thing is that the Pats continue to bleed talent, not that we end up with Gay.
