Housekeeping: Draft Meetup & New Banner

Four three things that I need to address in housekeeping:

  1. Hell or high water, I will be covering the ‘08 NFL Draft, most likely inside Radio City, but I am trying to gauge interest in a TJB Draft Party. Not definite yet, but it would be either the night before (Friday) or after Day One (Saturday night … late) … are you interested and willing to make it into the city for the fun? Likely we would do something in Midtown, so basically, I am asking, is it worth some planning on our part to try and do a meetup of some sort? You can answer in the comments, or vote over to the right.
  2. We might be trying to do some sort of experimental, most likely awful video post tonight about the moves so far … good times. Anyway, please be honest if we come off as a less insightful Kige Ramsey.
  3. Most importantly, BIG thanks to Torey P. (TFP) for the help in making some changes to the banner. We’ve been kicking around a blog re-design for a long time, so we appreciate the help.
  4. One more thing … there’s been a TON of you emailing … I’ve got em all, and will be rolling out a monster mailbag tomorrow, along with some featured stuff based on a few notes.

  1. Interested in both the party and possibly joining you at Radio City.

  2. By the way I for one, am not a huge fan of the new banner. While a ‘reach around’ is considered courteous in many circumstances, I am not sure Harris would appreciate the depiction. :)

  3. I was thinking about hitting radio city with a few buddies as well..I would be down for saturday night to either celebrate or drown my sorrows!

btw, I didn’t notice Harris’ “tackling form” until it was posted up here..very nice!

  4. We just signed Pace to a monster deal….

  5. holy cow, is this guy really going to rush the passer? i hope so..

  6. What are the odds that these numbers are blown way out of proportion? Probably pretty high…

  7. I *hope* they are blown out of proportion. As someone commented on ESPN, they could have signed Briggs for less. Now they really need to dump Robertson.

  8. The guarantees could be similar to the Jenkins deal. This deal is getting no love on the espn boards but I trust the move. I just have no idea who we’re going to take come draft day

  9. I am planning on going to the draft this year and would be interested in meeting up. Great site. Thanks.

  10. if McFadden drops, I don’t see how you can pass on him. Maybe trade Jones on draft day.

  11. And I just heard that the Jets just signed Calvin Pace?

  12. I hope it’s mis-reported. $20M in guarantees is an exorbitant amount for a player like Pace, who has had only brief success in the league.

  13. Adam schefter said the jets signed woody to a 5 yr. deal

  14. Yeah Juan I was just about to post that too haha. Here’s the link

  15. pace had 98 tackles, 80 solo, and 6.5 sacks in his first year playing olb. also can play de. i think thats pretty impressive and i like him for our squad
that frees the jets to do whatever they want in the draft

  16. Very interested in a TJB draft party, preferably Sat night. Yea…hope Harris took Laurent to dinner before that hit in the new banner
    :)

  17. Now see, this just makes me plain mad. Why on earth would you make a guy who’s only slightly better than what you have (Hobson) one of the highest paid linebackers in NFL history?

Desperate is what i’ll call it. He better be good, really fricking good.

  18. Group of 20 interested in the party

  19. Jeez, if you thought the clamor for McFadden was fervent before, now it’s going to be ridiculous. I still would prefer Gholston, McKelvin or Jenkins over him, but investing this kind of money into Pace certainly expands the options at #6.

Personally, I think that we need a WR more than anything, and then a CB. If we shore up those two positions, this looks (on paper) like a playoff team, providing that Clemens improves along with the offense.

If Ryan and/or McFadden is available at #6, why not trade down for a guy like Malcolm Kelly? Big, fast, #1 WR with good hands. The Jets haven’t had a guy like that since Keyshawn was around, which, not coincidentally, was the last time they were a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

  20. Axel-

Last season, Hobson had 48 solo tackles and 2 sacks, with 3 PD.
Last season, Pace had 80 solo tackles and 6.5 sacks, a FF, 6 PD, and an INT for good measure.

If the contract is true, it’s borderline insanity. But come on- Pace is only slightly better than Hobson?

  21. Hi all,
I was going to be working on organizing the party with Bassett. Here are the two options that I was thinking about. If we can have a guaranteed turn out we could all pitch in and see about renting out a bar and having an open bar deal, probably like 30-40 bucks all you can drink. If not we can simply meet up at a local place. The turnout looks big so maybe we can post a poll to see what we want to do.
I will be at Radio City

  22. Interested in the party, either Fri or Sat night.

  23. Bassett,

I think the banner is too much. The red stands out a lot and it is very busy on the left side compared to the subtle right side. Also there isn’t much of a transition to make this work. I know it is not your art, and I don’t want to make it seem horrible because you can tell whoever made it is very talented, but as a banner I’m not sure it works.

  24. Replace Pennington with a quarterback and your banner will be perfect

  25. I call shotgun next to Bassett at Radio City, as I want to be the 2008 version of the confused, irate fan featured in ESPN’s next “Jets Draft Flashback” retrospective.

I already practicing my holy-crap-I-don’t-believe-they-took-that-guy look. Should be a classic…like Blue Steel or Magnum.
