News: Is Carl Nicks the New Justin Miller?

by Bassett on March 11th, 2008 at 1:24 am

Just a few weeks before the draft, the 2008 Draft has it’s newest candidate for the Inaugural Justin Miller Draftstock Award … this year’s winner? Nebraska’s OT Carl Nicks.

Police said they were called to a residence shortly before midnight Saturday. Officer Katie Flood said police heard music coming from the house that was audible from the sidewalk. There were about 75 people inside, and empty beer cans were strewn about the home.

Flood said police cited 10 partygoers who remained after officers told everyone to leave … police arrested Nicks on suspicion of being an inmate of a disorderly house and failure to disperse after he wouldn’t leave.

New line coach Bill Callahan obviously likes Nicks, but it will be interesting to see how this goes over with NFL teams.

Justin Miller might have had other knocks on his game, but the player who had received a late first round grade dropped the better part of a full round from after his run-in in a similarly foolish fashion. We’ll see if the same thing happens with Nicks …

Thanks to NUJet for making us aware of this …

i read alot of good things about this kid…but seriously its not like he was out in the streets making trouble…i say let this 1 slide…but with an asterik next to his name…and who ever drafts him should find out if he has a drinking problem…just to make sure…you never know…just my thoughts…

I think it is more along the lines of ‘how dare you ask me to leave. Don’t you know I’ll be drafted in a couple of weeks, make lots off money and I used to play for the Huskers. I can do whatever I want.’ I’m more concerned with the fact he was chillin’ with Maurice Purify, another possible somewhat high draft pick who has shown just recently that the law doesn’t apply to him as well, with this being his second offense in less than a year. Not good judgement, big man. Good thing Tom Osborne is the new AD here. He’s got plenty of experience on knowing how the criminal process works (see Lawrence Phillips).

I agree this could be much worse. We’ve all been to parties that were busted by the cops. I think the main takeaway here is, as NUJet says, we need to question this kids judgement. He should have just walked away knowing that any blip on the radar could cost him big time. We’ll see if it actually does.

I am ashamed to admit I’ve led a life obviously going to the wrong parties.

Which proves the general thrust. It is one thing to be guilty of individual deeds (e.g., fathering three illegitimate children).

It is quite another to be damned by guilt by association.

All this would convince me is to look again at Nick’s historical behavior. If he is clean; ignore this.

I think in light of Pacman Jones and VIck, that anybody with off-field problems is going to fall this year. I doubt there’s going to be much interest in looking past these incidents right now, because Goodell really laid down the law with the Jones suspension.

Carl Nicks would have been up for the second selection for the Jets. Now it looks like a QB, so I wouldn’t think the Jets would care.

I really don’t see this as even a minor issue. He wanted to stay with teammates to make sure nothing bad went down.
It’s not like he had a gun, or drugs. He was at a college party. I don’t see the issue.

ive known carl since high school hes never had a drinking problem he was out having fun with some of his friends and happen to be at the wrong place at the wrong time this shouldnt affect him in the draft he wasnt putting himself of anyone else at harm it was just clean fun.

well this is carl nicks and I would just like to say sorry for making my family and friends unproud of me and tarnishing my own name. Second, the officer asked me where I was going. I simply responded that I would be sleeping here….at my friends house. In efforts to avoid a d. u. i. Despite my efforts I was aressted. I thought I was doing the smart thing but the even smarter thing would of been not even to go…..
