Interactive Blogging: Matt Ryan’s Pro Day

So it looks like I have clearing to attend a certain Pro Day tomorrow from a prestigious Catholic institution of higher learning in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Although I won’t likely take the opportunity to ask Mr. Ice himself any specific questions, I wanted to know what you readers wanted me to look for from Ryan.  Based on your input on this comment thread, I’ll be glad to do my best to report back what I see and hear from the event.

  1. the fifteen yard down and out pass – toughest pass in football to complete w/out over/under throwing the ball or getting picked off – can he throw it at this level

  2. Check out his footwork and see if he can complete the deep out without a lot of air under the ball (check out the intermediate and short outs, too). Also, see if it looks like he can hit seams between the hashmarks, but about 15-20 yards downfield, over the top of the LBs, but in front of the safeties (those are the passes that really screw up 8-men in the box defenses). IMO, Chad can’t complete with any regularity any of these passes and KC can’t stay in the pocket to hit deep passes between the hashmarks. Then, look at him and think to yourself, honestly, whether you’d rather see Ryan take the reins or hand the QB position back to KC. Would he be worth giving up on KC?

  3. He can make that throw, no question. I don’t know how you could test his decision making under pressure. Simultaneously throw him an ice cream cone and a hand grenade and see how he reacts?

Oh, and see if you can get close enough to measure his forehead.

  4. Ask him why we should trust anyone with two first names.

  5. bassett, i’m very interested to know who from jets attends. chris long’s pro day is tomorrow too. it would be interesting to see how they split. obviously, schott should check out ryan and maybe callahan too. but i want to know who will go check out long.

  6. Bent, the Ricky Bobby test: unleash a jaguar!

  7. Check out the quickness of his delivery on medium and deep passes. Does he whip the ball quickly, or have a longer wind-up?

Bassett, great job getting this opportunity!

  8. Overrated, lucky that the QB class is very weak. Not good in College against the fast D.

  9. KC has all the top exec’s at Chestnut Hill, they may grab him ahead of you.
