Troy Brown Visits New York Jets
So since the Jets will be short a veteran leader at receiver over the next few months, they didn’t wait long to try and find someone who could fill in … Troy Brown is visiting today with the Jets, according to the Globe’s Mike Reiss.
It was initially thought that the 36-year-old Brown, the Patriots’ all-time leader in receptions with 557, would not even consider teams that would be slated to play the Patriots this season.
However, visiting with the archrival Jets indicates Brown is willing to explore all options before deciding whether he wants to play again next season. Losing Brown to the Jets would be a tough blow for Patriots fans.
Yes, it’s spiting your face by cutting off your nose, but whether Brown never plays a down for the Jets or not, if it’sa ‘tough blow’ to Patriots fans then they shouldn’t let the man leave without a contract in hand.
In seriousness, if you’ve never heard Troy Brown in an interview, he’s an excellent man and would be admired by guys like Brad Smith and Chansi Stuckey, and is someone who other players speak about reverently. Oddly enough, Troy Brown is the guy I used as an example contrasting to Coles in terms of doggedly desiring to stay with one team.
Even though he is a true utility player (Offense, Defense, Special Teams), Brown’s game has lapsed badly along with some serious injuries. Although he would be a welcome veteran presence, I just think that there is enough leadership on this team already and too many receivers that the team would like to carry forward as it is.

On the cheap, I love it. Only question is what took so long?
Why ? Eric Moulds and dozens of others are out there as well. What do I want to watch this guy for ? I was all for Wayne Chrebet to leave 2-3 years before he did, and he gave me his heart and soul. Veteran presence … joke. Lav Coles is not enough of a veteran? Or Faneca? Or Chad? It is more of Mangini’s lame Parcells imitation. “My guys” is his next MO? Troy Brown is a definite NO.
Definate yes. Troy brown wont only be a leader in the clubhouse, but hell be a great target for CHAD on 3rd downs. its like having another wayne chrebet for a year youve got to like that possiblity.
Or maybe they want his leadership becuase there shopping coles?
Totally disagree…we do not need him nor any other NE leftovers.
There is plenty of leadership in the room even without LC
Yeah, the Parcells guys really performed in 1999 against the Broncos. They fumbled, misfielded a kick-off, fumbled some more, and for good measure fumbled even more.
The Jets don’t have Chemistry, they have Leadership.
If they get rid of Coles and replace him with T Brown, then they’ll be the New England Jets, good soldiers that enjoy eating BS sandwiches.
how many draft picks do the jets have?
if the jets draft gholston with their 1st pick, who do they draft with the 2nd?…WR’s-James Hardy/Eddie Royal/Devin Thomas,LB-Curtis Lofton or CB’s-Antoine Cason/Terrell Thomas/Reggie Smith….
